My iPad 3 died last night and I'm in the market for a new tablet; here's what I'm looking for:

    Under 250

    Android or Windows

    High quality screen

    Fast processor, overall good performance

    Where I'm willing to sacrifice:

    Battery life

    Camera/video quality

P.S, is it possible to install imessage on an Android?

Dell Venue 8 Pro is a nice tablet for the money.

Using it with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, it's ok. It's Windows 8.1 and supports miracast.

I have a Win 8.1 laptop so needed something very simple. I chose an Android tablet, Lenovo A7600. Great battery, decent sound -- was about $200 w/BT keyboard. Great reviews (beating out more expensive models) and so far great. Running Kitkat. I have Sonos all over the house and Android can "see" the Android net. Seamless up-dump to Dropbox.

I found it used for 100 on Amazon. I also found the Nexus 7 for 66 bucks.

Side note -- if it matters -- you may know there is an Android version of BBerry Blend. Also, the A7600 is 10" screen.

I have a Linx 8 tablet that was a corporate gift, runs Windows 8.1, works great and I find having an actual Windows PC useful for my IT role.

    They're under 100

They also do a larger screen version for 159

Given you get 12 months free Office 365 (which is 70) it makes them an awesome bargain!

The smaller 8" one suits me fine as it's easier to stow on my motorbike, being Win 8.1 means it can project its screen to many TV's and also has a mini USB and HDMI sockets.

I got a mini USB to RJ45 adaptor and have found it invaluable with network troubleshooting

I picked the Vulcan Challenger 2 up for my mother for around $100 free two day shipping with amazon prime and she fell in love with it. It's quad core, windows 8.1, dual speakers (which I can go without thanks to the Playbook) and a gig of ram. Good for everyday use. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00OTK...UvbUpU11404356

Check out Costco if you have one nearby. Decent prices on tablets there
