This sounds like carrier approved updates. Blackberry has always caved as far as carriers are concerned.

Should this indeed be the case it would be a real put off for me.

Later on once you've been using it a good while can you give us any idea of whether this build improves battery life please? I'd appreciate it if you could keep an eye on that. Thanks :-)

Wondering if anything has been done about the low light camera issue. I am convinced that this is fixable via software using some digital filters.

For camera they just need to increase exposure time.

I have checked my phone and no updates, I am on 10.0.9.2372 and I am on an unlocked Z10 bought from Carphone warehouse and using a sim from the three network. It seems there are a few different versions floating around.
    I'm on a z10 I bought from cpw too but I have 10.0.9.348 :-(

That's different from a different firmware for each carrier .. Makes sense with a new device that carriers are cautious

If that's how it is then it's really sad. Carriers in the Middle East nearly never approved any of the OS 5/6/7/7.1 Updates as they are lazy. I don't want to experience the same with BB10

It is the same here in South Africa. Real let down for me as I had pretty much made up my mind about getting a Q10.

Anyway, carriers get various versions of the firmware. They just release what they believe works best with their network after testing.

That's if they test it. They never do. They just sleep on their desks all day long :/. Carriers should never control the OS Updated but the supplementary updates that only downloads their apps.

Carrier update or not but Vodafone Germany doesn't support the BIS service yet as of today, they will support it starting the day the Z10 will be officially available with them (end of February or March). So I received the Vodafone software update and the Z10 seems to be ready for Vodafone but unfortunately not the other way around.

lol. Z10 itself doesn't support BIS. You will be using a Normal data plan.

Interesting. Vodafone Germany just told me today that the Z10 will support their BIS service. Weird.

BIS is used for some special RIM apps like BBM. For all the other data connections the carrier apn is used. Simply don't trust vdf germany, they don't have a clue at all.

I updated.. and now under the connection options you see 4G, 3G, 2G instead of the original HSPA, LTE, GSM, etc.

I'm on Wind and now i'm getting a 4G connection, but my data is no longer there and i'm unable to use it

Many carriers will let you keep what had been a BIS plan previously, but as stated above virtually of the data is non-compressed over the carrier's network / Wi-Fi.
I kept my plan too because it's a good one, and I already have 6GB/month of data with that.

Most BIS plans won't have a big enough data allowance for many BB10 users.

Why are people surprised at the carrier approved updates? The LTE PlayBook is the same way. Apple is the only company that has managed to bypass the carrier. BlackBerry is such a small player right now it's not at all a surprise.
