I have a old car charger I was using with my old 8830 curve.

I was wondering if I could find out if it is ok to use it with my new z10?

Umm well yes and no, the Z10 requires at least 750mah charging as that's the default one, so anything lower will definitely be slower to charge and in some cases hurt the unit.

Just go buy the BlackBerry 1.8a car charger and all is awesome I gave it.

Welcome to CrackBerry! Or congrats on your 1st post anyway.
Please update your profile to show device, carrier, and location. Makes it easier for others to help you.

Any charger for the Z10 should be minimum 750mA.
BB brand chargers will always say somewhere on them. If it's another brand, google the model number. That's how I determined my old Motorola car charger was strong enough.

So using my bold 9700 700 mA wall charger will hurt my device? I actually thought I read, here on the forums, that the higher rated chargers can diminish battery life faster than the lower rated ones.

Anything lower then spec charger can hurt device as device taking way longer to charge and heating the battery for longer time period.

As for rapid chargers yeah they can deminish battery faster, but how long who knows, but most ppl upgrade before that happens or replace battery and the z10's battery is good price.

Was it the 8830 or the 8330 curve? Check to make sure it's a micro usb, the chargers back then were mini usb.

No, that should work well, and quickly.

I say this for entertainment purposes, and I'm not liable should portions of your phone and/or car and/or self explode with use.
    Cheers!

Rapid charger for PB, u can't use as it's different 3 pin style, but if u mean the 1.8a wall charger I use this all the time and the BlackBerry 1.8a car charger same specs as the playbook 1.8a wall charger.

Will it reduce battery life yes, but by how much no one knows until it dies, but usually it will last a year or more if u have a good battery and many ppl upgrade before then, but sure maybe it dies in 6 months, no one knows, but for the price of a battery 34.99 or less I bet in a year, it's worth the faster charging, but if a battery was 79.99-99. 99 I would rethink.

Not correct Heat Is The Destroyer and a lessor amp charged will heat the battery up longer = worse for battery.

I've been using the 3amp playbook charger for my torch touch for 2 years and my gf's bold and now my z10 every night for two months. It charges in 45 -60 minutes and have never had a battery issue, some days even leaving it on charge for 15 hrs . But that's just my experience.

A 700 ma charger is less then 10% the charger that comes with the BlackBerry 10 so shouldn't be a problem at All. Charger ratings are also not that Accurate. BlackBerry has even recommended a charger of 500 ma. as a minimum. There are a lot of usb ports on notebooks that struggle to make 500 ma. My recommendation would not to use the phone when charging on a usb port or 500 ma. charger, if you want it to charge up.You

I wouldn't go over 1,800 ma. (1.8 amps) as that is the rated limit of micro usb connections.

I personally settled on 1,000 ma (1 amp) chargers for my z10.

If current is pulled, not pushed wouldn't all chargers provide the same amperage up to the max drawn by the device or the max rating of the charger, whichever comes first? Ie if the phone draws 1000ma a 750ma charger will provide 750ma, while both the 1000ma and 1500ma chargers would provide 1000ma as that is the max current drawn by the device. At least that's how I thought current worked?
