True there is no cost with the VVM, but it was explained to me that they simply have to "check the right box" if you want it or not. The rep told me that everything else is exactly the same as far as the plan goes.

After she did this, and I set it up on my phone, no issues. All of my old messages popped right up.

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to add some info:

    I have a Z10 with 10.1.0.2029 (AT&T hasn't release 10.2 yet dammit)

My Visual Voice Mail wasn't working - AT&T insisted they had the account provisioned for VVM, but it still wasn't working on my Z10. I could call voice mail at any time and get my messages just fine, no problem. But I would never get any notification on my handset that there was a voice mail waiting.

So here's what AT&T had me do: Call voice mail from a land line - once I did that (logging in manually with the phone # and password), it told me my password had expired! Note that when calling voice mail from my Z10 the system NEVER told me this!

Once I changed the password, VVM started working. Hopefully this might help someone else...
