I spent quite awhile complaining to RIM this afternoon about this issue. I don't expect a change, but to me this is one of the many features that come with a RIM device.

No, this is one of that features that USED to come with a RIM device using operating systems 7 and prior.

Never used the carrier/blackberry address with any of the BlackBerries I have had, so I don't miss it.
Not sure why you would think that one of those email addresses would be any more free from intrusion from the authorities or yahoo, Google etc.

I totally am with the OP. I miss my hosted email address, my @ tmo.blackberry.net one. It was the only one I gave out in situations where I wanted to be contacted (as opposed to like...raffles or contests, where I'd use my yahoo or Gmail one).

I have had that address since I became a BlackBerry user in 2007, and I valued it because it always worked and I could count on instant email, and no spam whatsoever (until a few months ago when I'd randomly get Cialis and Viagra spam..I'm only 25, I don't need that yet haha....).

Anyways, I'd do anything to have my email address back.

Plus, your BIS email clearly gave a false sense of security. Your email was no more secure there than anywhere else. You want secure? Rent yourself a BES hosted email account and call it a day. Not trying to sound harsh, just realistic.

Not surprised. The reason is because BlackBerry and your carrier got rid of BIS. This is the server that provided the blackberry.net email address. No server = no BlackBerry email address

This is not actually BlackBerry's fault. Blame the carriers. They forced BlackBerry to abandon bis and BlackBerry email because they didn't want to pay for it.

I miss bis too but there are enough email providers. I wouldn't get hung up on it.

Exactly. The link I received from my CARRIER to forward the email was pointed at the carrier's server.

So when BB mail servers go down, your email stops. For me No thanks....been there done that with BB.

I spent back hour trying to figure out how to make a @rogers.blackberry.net email only to find out I wasn't able to. Kind of disappointing since I really like this email it was very secure.

With Rogers, I got a notification on my Z10 about the demise of the rogers.blackberry.net address. I'm surprised you didn't get this.

While I don't live in a cave, I was surprised to find that RIM/Blackberry will no longer maintain my tmo.blackberry email address. To me, I might as well have an Apple or Android. I am pissed no one mentioned this. Anybody else irritated about this?

You may as well live in a cave if you're not going to bother to research something that means so much to you. This has been a known issue for a long time. Really it was hard to log into CrackBerry and not be deluged with posts on the subject for a while. Step up, be informed. Maybe you'll see that some things aren't the big deal they appear to be at first, or if they are what meaningful workarounds some very clever users have developed.

This is good enough for me. Apparently it was a false sense of security. I never used it anyway.

I wasn't happy about losing my @bell.blackberry address. Not for any bis reasons but it wasn't a huge deal, just set up forwarding and updated all accounts, contacts and logins with my new address.

For Rogers in Canada they did. I even had to change my email for my BlackBerry ID as it was using my BlackBerry.net id. No biggie though.
