First off, my Z 10 is a STL 100-3, and the carrier is Claro Puerto Rico. Still running OS 10.0.10.672.

My issue is is very straightforward, if the LTE isn't working, I can't use any app that requires data connection. Txt still work ( of course) but none other app does. I have read on this forum many instances of carrier locked SIM cards, which the end result of this procedure are the problems that I'm having.

Knowing this my question is, if I unlock my Z 10 would this be fixed? Or what exactly do I need to do ( aside from NOT screaming in rage to the customer service representative) to resolve this.

Unlocking you Z10 will allow you to use another carriers sim card thats about it. Do you know what frequency band your carrier uses for LTE? Also when LTE is off does it show H+, 3G, E, or even G or anything. Does it connect but just not pass data? what version of the STL100-3 do you have. There appears to be 2 versions RFK121LW: Quad band HSPA+ 1, 2, 4, 5/6 (850/1700/1900/2100 MHz) and RFF91LW: Tri-band HSPA+ 1, 2, 5/6 (850/1900/2100 MHz). The thing that I notice is that the STL100-3 LTE bands are Quad band LTE 2, 5, 4, 17 (700/850/1700/1900 MHz) however the HSPA does not have the 700Mhz band. Maybe your carrier uses the 700 for data and nothing else? I dont know. If this is a phone that you recieved from your carrier you should go straight to them to work this out.

I had a similar problem yesterday. I called the carrier, and they had me reset the mobile network.

When it's not on 4G LTE, it drops depending on the area to 4G, 3G, and when the signal is really bad to g and e. Needless to say data only works on LTE. My model is the RFK121LW which is the quad band. My brother has a S3 running on 4G and his data works no matter the band that its in. I did try to change the sim card (iphone of my younger brother) and it worked perfect on 4G. I'm starting to think that the limitation is sim card imposed. Knowing this is there a way to fix this without just unlocking and maybe using another sim card?

Here is what I would do. See if you can use your brothers sim from his S3 and put it in your Z10. See if it works in 3G and 4G. If is does then your phone is fine. The issue will be on the carrier and the sim card. They may have to change something. Now if you it doesn't work then I would maybe install a leaked OS that is a higher version like 10.1.0.4687 and see if that fixes it. Like I say first see if that other sim works in you Z10.
