    Hi all,

Today I accidentally noticed an interesting feature of my BlackBerry Z 10.

When we call someone and we place the phone near to our ears the screen gets locks automatically and when we remove the handset from our ear the screen gets unlocked.

This is another good features of BlackBerry Z 10 which I noticed today only this smart features was not available in my BlackBerry Bold 9700 and also Samsung galaxy s 7562 ICE CREAM SANDWICH.

    Great work BlackBerry.

This is a great feature, but not new. It has been there since launch of Z10.

It wasn't needed for 9700 as 9700 did not have a touchscreen.
Previous touchscreen BB's like Torch or 99xx had this too, but its reliability was questionable.

I noticed that myself and being a former Apple and Android user who has had many call hang ups from touching the screen during a call, I love it.

I highly also recommend getting the Call X app as it notifies you by vibration of the incoming and especially the outgoing calls getting connected without the hassle of listening or looking at the phone while it's dialing. You have to leave the app open as until now they cannot operate it in the background and it barely needs any battery power to run and you could confirm that with battery guru app.

I don't work for call x or anything like that. I just like the app as it helps me a lot while roaming around.

I think my Torch had the proximity sensor too. It's great so you don't accidentally dial with any facial warts...hey, could happen.

Lol I never saw it as anything special, guess as any touch screen phone I've had does that.

Just curious, did you have a Torch 9800, 9810, or 9850/60?

Both wife and I have had a 9800, and we found the face sensor mediocre, as we would often hit Hold, Mute, or Speakerphone with our cheek.

This was available on the original iPhone. I just wish I was "finding" new features on my new z10 but unfortunately I'm in the states and on verizon so I got some time.

I had the 9800 and never had any problems like that but I almost always used a bluetooth headset as well. Actually, I loved my Torch. It never gave me any trouble really and if it wasn't for wanting the Z10, I'd still be using it. I still kinda miss the keyboard from time to time.

its a feature most touch screen phones have as it is easy to hit a button on the screen when its to your ear, my 9900 did this also but my dad and my uncle both seem to constantly push buttons on theirs its either they don't know how to use their phones or they soem how have this feature disabled. on a side not my old 8900 curve had the feature also to save battery the screen would go off until you pulled the phone away fronm your ear to look for soemthign while in the call or switch to speakerphone or simple just hang up

The original iPhone had a proximity sensor. And in all reality phones dating back to 2002/2003 even had them. Nothing new here. Your galaxy S 7562 has one too. Should work in the same fashion.

It never worked properly on my 9860 ... Although on my storm it did from what I remember. I was glad to see working well on the Z10. It's a pretty standard item on today's phones.

Thats been our experience too. The sensors on our 9800's were not over much use but the Z10 works well.

Remember that the Storms required more than simple contact like every touchscreen in the modern world. You still needed the "click" the screen... difficult to do with your ear of cheek for most people.
