    Is there any way to have a timer set on the music player so that it switches off after a predetermined period ( as is available on both iOS and android ) .I often listen to music before falling asleep and would be nice to have the music switched off after I have fallen asleep.

    Hi and welcome to CrackBerry!!!!
    The only timer I know of is on an app like Tune In Radio. It allows you to play music and and set a timer to shut off. And TuneIn Radio is a free app!

    The Neutron Music Player app will do that. It costs $4.99 and has a number of other features.
