Does anyone know with att if you can use mobile tethering without paying extra? I know that they will charge you for mobile hot spot. I think this would be great if I could use it for my computer.

    Thanks,
    Bill

On ATT mobile hot spot is free with shared data plans. Otherwise pay is required.

Most carriers are doing packet-level inspection so even if you could get it to come up (and you might be able to using the escreens) there is a decent chance your carrier will catch you immediately and either block it, redirect you to the "pay me" web page on their site or worse, silently take the traffic and bill you by the megabyte for it.

On att, you just need to have the 5g plan, to use hotspot.

    No unfortunately.

@OP if you are on Verizon there is a way to do it. Search for mobile hotspot. Us gsm in the USA customers have had no luck. I don't know about other countries/carriers.

    Edit: found it

I was using Mobile hotspot on my 9900 for a year without them noticing. The key is not to use a rediculous amount of data. If you can stay under the 5gb limit they most likely won't say anything. If you get it working let us know how you do it!

And sorry for posting about a way to do it on Verizon, somehow I missed that you were on at&t the first time I read the op.

Switch carriers.. Not sure about your choices in the states, but north of the border tethering is free to use. I pay $15 for 6gigs of data and tether/mobile hot spot my laptop in the car everyday.
