We just purchased a new Marantz SR7008 receiver. Plugged it in and it immediately recognized my Z10 as a media server using the DLNA capability automatically . My husband, who thinks poorly of my phone, was surprised. These are real life applications that I find most useful. Very happy. And the sound is amazing. We have old Boston Acoustics and Dave Brubeck's Take Five just kills it.

Can you use the "play on" feature of your Z10 to play audio and video on your Marantz?

Works on my Yamaha for music only. But album covers are displayed on-screen.

Can also use the Yamaha to browse and play music that's on the Z10.

I am trying to find a way to remotely play my BB10 purchased movies on my TV, which requires a DLNA media renderer capable of audio and video. Playing files from the Z10, as a DLNA media player, won't work since they are protected with DRM.

I'm hoping I can replace my aging non-HDMI receiver with one that fully supports rendering audio and video.

Yes i can. Works great as well. The DLNA feature accesses my phone as a media server. Doesn't drain my battery either as opposed to Play On. This is the latest receiver so the technology is updated. I have some issues with our older smart TV and just use hdmi with it.

Do you notice a difference in quality between the direct HDMI connection a d the Play On steaming? Either way I will definitely look at this receiver.

I can't use the remote media play method because the BlackBerry store movies I downloaded are encrypted. So my BlackBerry has to be the player one way or the other.

I hate to ask you a question I believe you answered but I wanted to confirm you can stream audio AND video from the BlackBerry video player to the Marantz 7008. I'm asking because their website just talks about streaming audio but nothing about video.

Hi. I have only been streaming audio. From my understanding, the video I had purchased from BBW has DRM so I can only play it via the receiver using the hdmi cable. I haven't tried that yet but had read on other threads. We have a Samsung Smart TV that I just use the hdmi cable to play the videos I have on my phone and Playbook. Quality has not seemed to be compromised.

You can use the "Play On" feature in the video player if the remote unit is a DLNA Media Renderer. This means your BlackBerry device is actually rendering the video and handling the DRM. The problem is some TVs are Renders but that is outside the receiver and I'm worried I won't get proper audio playback.
