Learned something new today.
Where I live talking on a cell phone while driving is illegal and will get you a nice $200 fine, unless you use a hands free device.
In my truck I have a nav deck with blue tooth built in so while I'm driving I can make and receive calls hands free no problem.
Well the truck went in for service today and I was given a brand new jeep compass to use in the meantime.
Much to my surprise the brand new jeep did not have blue tooth. I figured I could suck it up for a day or two and just pull over when I need to make calls.
One thing I could not suck up however was the terrible radio I was forced to listen to. So I swung by my home and grabbed my audio cable to plug my phone into the aux port so I could listen to music.
While I was rocking out, I noticed that the music volume faded for a second to play my notifications when I received a message. Then went back to full volume.
That's pretty cool I thought. Don't interrupt the music, but don't miss the message either.
A few minutes later I got a phone call. Instinctively I swiped down to answer the call, forgetting that I had no blue tooth and could not talk on my phone without holding it to my head.
All of the sudden to my surprise I heard the call coming through my speakers.
I said hello, and again to my surprise the caller could hear me.
I did not know that the calls would be routed thru the speakers via the aux port. And that the mic would work as normal while plugged in.
This is a fantastic option for those who have aux port but not blue tooth.
Forgive me if this is old news but it blew me away when I realized it.
Also I noticed that when you unplug the cable from the phone while music is playing, it will pause the music rather than playing it through the phones speaker.
Handy if you are in and out of the car a lot. You won't lose you place in the song.
