There is no way to load a leak via a Linux desktop is there? Aside from running a VM of course.

Even running a VM may cause issues with connectivity as the Virtualbox had caused me issues in the past with the USB Connection to my PlayBook.
Windows is best for BlackBerry and I have to borrow my sister's laptop to load leaks as I too have a Ubuntu laptop

Dual boot to Windows or use another computer with Windows on it. That's about all you can do.
