I'm having the same issue. Tried to sideload 4.0.2 and didn't work so I rolled back to older version. Now I'm getting the update the app prompt. Wasn't sure if it was because I tried to upgrade. I need to learn how to do this debug mode.

I'll reload android runtime to see if I can upload a pic
I'm on 10.2.0.810 and the runtime won't post instagram, so I need to go to 663
It'll take me about 10 minutes

You need to install a debug, and add in permissions _sys_android_rrr
It's actually something I discovered over a month ago, and xsacha found out how to implement
There is a script he uploaded somewhere on the forum, if you want to give it a try

On 10.2, it works just after sideload, no extra permissions needed

It usually takes about 40 minutes. You also need to generate the p12 after you get the 2 files
    Here's the instructions you need

So at least that tells you that Instagram isn't blocking sideloads on the most recent runtime and most recent instagram

Exactly the same happened to me yesterday. Downloaded the 4.0.2 Instagram from Android Drawer - Android Apps .apk Repository, created my own bar using the debug token, sideloaded and works like a charm now.

I think what happened is in order to implement their new API, everyone was logged out
However, because the app is supposed to remember your username password, it just signs you back in
But for the old sideload of 3.4.4 (I do believe there is a working 3.5.3 you guys can sideload) you need to login through facebook
That's why you realize you were signed out, but not other users

Don't quote me on it though. It's my speculation based on what has happened and what I know about how it works.
It could very well just be a version problem on BB, and they were trying to get everyone to update LOL

My old version is not working too. It prompted me to install the latest version of the IG. I side loaded the 4.0.2 version but it says the camera is not compatible. I already renewed my debug token. This only happened when I updated the latest os last night.

You will need to recreate your 4.0.2 bar with debug using your new debug token
When it says camera not compatible (means you have to be on 10.1), and your debug isn't working, or _sys_android_rrr isn't enabled
Also, what is the "newest" OS you're referring to
The newest OS for me is 10.2.0.810
