    I'd go Windows.

My wife has an iPhone and I don't want to go there. I don't want iTunes on my PC - ever (personal and philosophical reasons that no one will ever convince me other wise) .

My son has a GS2, and while android is appealing to me, I don't want to have to have a Gmail account just to use one - don't want to be just another notch in their Gmail numbers. That's the only reason they force you to have one. All their other services can use any other existing email account of any type. But not when you first set up an android based phone. I made my wife make one up when we got the thing since she already dove into the muck with Apple. Now, if that's changed recently, I haven?t heard of it.

After TH announced the options for BB today, this looks more real now. I never thought I would have to choose a non BB phone, but hey, that's life...

Either an iPhone or Android Nexus device, since I already have a foot in each of their ecosystems as well and am familiar with their OS.

Droid and iPhone are no go. I'd try an Ubuntu phone or maybe a windows phone just maybe.

I couldn't use a Nexus device. Too many features missing compared to TouchWiz.

iPhones do not require iTunes to function. They require iTunes as much as a Windows 7.5 Phone required Zune. Unless you absolutely need to sync something from a PC, it's completely optional. Same for Galaxy S devices and Samsung Kies. iOS devices Sync most things through iCloud these days (App Purchases, Media, etc.). I never saw a need to use iTunes when I had an iTouch (which was always connected thanks to tethering, so it was like an iPhone without a Phone) because of iCloud.

I could understand the hate (on this level) for iTunes when it required QuickTime to be installed, but it all seems a bit irrational these days.

Google Account on Android is needed only for Play Store. You just create the Account and basically you don't even have to use it outside of getting your Play Store receipts there.

Plug in Outlook.com via EAS (Email, Contacts, Calendar, Tasks all Sync on a GS2). Use Skype for IM/Video Calling. SkyDrive for Cloud Storage. Office Mobile or OfficeSuite Pro 7 for Office, etc. You can avoid using most Google Services even on Android. I ran that way for a while on my GS2. There really wasn't a big difference in user experience.

At that point the Google Account functions largely like a Blackberry ID, or iCloud Account on iOS when you don't use iCloud PIM/etc., or Microsoft Account on Windows Phone when you're a Google Services user, etc. You can also turn Synching off for that Gmail Account (and most everything else tied to that Google Account) and have the Play Store receipts (the only thing you'll get if you don't use it for anything else) forwarded to your main email account for safekeeping.

Can you install apps from Blackberry World without a Blackberry ID? Last time I tried that didn't work out so well.

    ---

As a work only device I'd personally use an iPhone. It's very compact which makes it easy to tote around with my personal phone. I would never use one phone for work and play, no matter what kind of tricks it has up its sleeve (BB Balance, Samsung Knox, etc.). Hell, for work purposes, I wouldn't care if they got me a Curve...

Can't imagine not having a Blackberry. Android is a NO. It would be a toss up between iPhone or Windows phone.

Maybe a refurbished contempra - with touchtone if I'm lucky (and to think they come in different colors)!

Actually, I carry a Z10 and Samsung Ativ WP8 (Ativ on Rogers, Z10 on AT&T). The Samsung is a great device, and I have the same frustration with lack of apps!

If BlackBerry went away, I'd be happy to continue using WP8 exclusively. It all depends on what my company decides to support - right now it is only BB and iPhone.

If I had the impression that BlackBerry was simply untenable (a big if for the immediate future, at lest), my next choice would be a Windows Phone. I'm probably one of the few that actually likes the metro interface for its simplicity, and I love the industrial interface of WP8. And some of the Lumia devices look excellent. Very grudgingly would I go for Android, and iPhone is at the bottom of the pile, probably after evaluating other options first.

I've had my Z10 since early Feb, still love it. I can't see that changing anytime soon.

I like having the innovative tech and I would probably go for an ubuntu or other linux-based device. Nonetheless, I love my z10 and wouldn't give it up until the very end. There is no other OS or company who understands my tech desires like BlackBerry:

I don't care about posting pictures, playing words with friends, or having my phone tell me a joke. I care about doing what I have and want to do efficiently and I care about how information is sorted and available on my device.

No seriously, I'd consider anything but an iPhone. I just can't like them. That home button after getting used to gestures. No.

I would buy a windows phone. I've just started playing with a computer with Windows 8 and I'm impressed. I really like the tile look. The phone floss nice and the sync between phone and computer would be very handy.

Switch to Pay-As-You-Go for phone services, and an aircard for my laptop.
If I have to give up my BB10, it`ll be like going back 5 years in productivity anyways.
