I know how to identify the device model (STL100 - #) once the device is on but is there anyway to identify it by the numbers on the box?

I remember reading a thread about this, and unfortunately it isn't possible without checking the phone itself.

Edit: I guess the OP is talking about the STL100-# device number only. I meant the RFxxxxxx model number.

RFG81UW "London": HSPA+ 850/900/1900/2100. Will work on AT&T's 3G/HSPA+ networks, and in some TMO markets that have 1900 MHz 3G/HSPA+. No LTE.

RFH121LW: LTE 800/900/1800/2600, HSPA+ 850/900/2100. Will not work on US networks.

RFK121LW "Lisbon": LTE 700/850/1700/1900, HSPA+ 800/850/1700/1900/2100: Will work on AT&T and TMO's 3G/HSPA+/LTE networks. Best model to have in North America.

RFF91LW: LTE 700/850/1700/1900 HSPA+ 800/850/1900/2100. Will work on AT&T and TMO LTE networks, and the same 3G/HSPA+ networks as the "London."

    RFA91LW "Laguna": LTE 700, CDMA 800/1900, HSPA+ 900/2100. Will work on Verizon's 3G and LTE networks.

Additionally, all models above are quad band GSM.

Both the STL100-# and RFxxxxx are on the box?

should be, at least for mine, the RFXXXXX should be printed, the STL100 should be in a sticker or something. you can determine which STL-100 it is by looking at the RF number
