In case you didn't know, perhaps young, the law is in line with general sentiment that misplaced/lost things are not considered abandoned and, so, the correct thing to do is to attempt bringing it to the attention of the owner, or hand to popo to deal with. I think it sound pretty clear someone left It on top of the top to use the toilet.

Seriously, wouldn't you want your phone returned if you lost it?

If I were the OP, I'd contact the owner and attempt to return it. BlackBerry owners are very attached to their devices. You might even be given a reward. At the very least you're doing the right thing.

Wouldn't you want someone to return your phone when you misplace it?

You Sir are what's wrong with the world today.

You do realize that in most places, at least here in the US you can be charged with theft if you do not make an attempt to locate the owner. Do the right thing, contact the owner and return their property. Karma has a way of coming back at you, both good, and bad.

If you wipe the phone and put another BlackBerry ID on it, will they still find it? My friend once lost a phone and didn't know what to do. Can you guys help me so I can help others who lost their phone too?

My 1st choice of smartphone (not smartTOY), BlackBerry.

Honestly I read the OP not thinking "found" as in "found on the street", but rather found (i.e. purchased or traded) secondhand... probably cause it wouldn't occur to me to be so low as to sell a phone that some poor soul has lost. I'm assuming those giving instructions to wipe made the same assumption; I can't possibly believe those posters were endorsing making a buck off a "found on the street" phone.
Yeah, this is what I thought too.
