The OS you installed is a developer OS. Go find another OS. Take a dive into the leaked section and you find what you want.

Presumably it's sounds you have to take a clear look about Autoloaders. Get the latest os 10.3.1.2572. It works like a jewel

Did you use n autoloader to upgrade to 10.3.1.1779?
If so, sorry you can't get back your photos. Autoloader is like doing a security wipe on your phone.

If not, try rebooting your device a couple of times and if you still can't get the photos. Then they are lost forever.

Always back up your phone before any update or try saving all your important stuff on external memory.

Glad I could help. Now I will advise you backup your photos and other important stuff in a cloud storage, pc, sd card or hard drive, so you don't lose them.
Your phone could be mistakenly wiped or damaged and you wouldn't be pleased if those photos gets lost for real.

Now you have had the experience of 'losing' your irreplaceable data it will no doubt focus your mind on doing regular backups!

Get an micro SD card. Autoloaders won't touch them. If you already have one it takes time for your phone to find them again. It will repopulate providing they were saved on the card.

Remember though, SD cards can become corrupted and should still be backed up regularly if they contain unique data.

CAUTION - if the sd card is encrypted, the key is generated and stored in the phone and is OS dependent (but restoring the same OS will merely generate a new, different key and not restore the old one. If you use an Autoloader (or use BBlink ), the encryption key is gone and the card's data will be permanently encrypted with no further access. While not directly related, if your card is encrypted and your phone needs to be repaired/replaced, your data is probably also permanently lost.

The key is as m2ach suggested - always have a reasonably current backup of your data.

That is the way I go but some folks don't want the data on their sd card exposed. I try keeping private info (medical, similar) in the phone's INTERNAL memory and the phone is password protected (but not encrypted). I try keeping generic stuff on the card - pictures, music, general documents and pdf files, videos. And I try making sure whatever is on the card is also copied to appropriate folders on my computer.
