That's how I do it in whatsapp,
Shift/enter creates a new line,
Maybe check the settings in the app,
Advanced settings, I have
enter is send turned ON.

This shortcut for more than SMS wasn't in the original release of BlackBerry 10, but was added later. (Around the maintenance release of 10.1, I think.) So if its not working outside of SMS, you might be running a really outdated version of BlackBerry 10. If so, please upgrade to the latest release. (Settings -> Software Updates)
