I was just trying to gauge if my phone's battery drain excessively. Just to experiment, I left my phone uncharged overnight from 100%. After 6 hours, I was down 20%, after 8 hours I was at 74% and I received around 5 messages throughout this time. Back when I had my iPhone 5, it would drain 20% overnight as well. I knew that it isn't normal, so Apple swapped it and gave me a new one that was draining at a more reasonable 5% overnight.

On a weekday, I would unplug my phone at 7:20am, turn on airplane mode in the subway, turn off airplane mode at the office and get home between 7-8 pm with around 30 - 40% left. My usage include light messaging throughout the day and browsing during lunch time. The first day with BlackBerry Protect on, I came home with only 6% battery left. But that might be due to the fact that I was testing it out at work.

Maybe an OS reload would help. How is everyone else's usage and battery drainage like?

For me it is 4%. Two nights ago I specifically tested this. I have Battery Guru so I can chart power usage. I went to bed with the Z10 purposely off the changer and the battery reporting 79%. When I woke after about 8 hours it had 75%. I checked the Battery Guru graph and it showed between 4 and 5 percent power loss over that period. I received 34 emails from my work, Facebook and BBM notifications. Two apps were running (which I always have running): Battery Guru and HUB++. Wireless and WiFi were on. I don't recall if Bluetooth was on but I leave it on so it probably was. NFC was off.

My Z10 draws 0.01 amps at idle (screen off). The Z10 comes with an 1800 mAh battery. That means the fully charged battery can deliver 1.8 amps for one hour. With my phone pulling 0.01 amps, the battery could last 180 hours (1.8 / .01). So that 4% drop over night makes mathematical sense: (8 / 180) * 100 = 4.44. I would expect to see between 4 and 5 percent use over a typical sleep period. That is what I see.

When I've left it off charger it has only gone down by 4% or 5% usually but one night there must have been some rogue process because it was flat by morning. Battery guru stopped and I could tell it had gone from 100 % to nothing in 6 hours, so now I leave it on charger just in case.

    Thanks for the replies.

This is disappointing to know that my phone drains abnormally overnight. I always have LTE and bluetooth on, bbm and battery lover running as an active frame

Mine varies from almost drain to complete run down. Installing apps seems to be the difference. Some are bad.

There goes your answer! Why do you have BT on at night? Do you have a blue tooth clock?
Why do you have a BBM active frame? You can still get push messages!

According to blackberry blog, all wireless connectivity (bluetooth, wifi, nfc) are battery optimized not to drain much more than it is off. I have always ran with my bt on all the time with my previous devices, no problem. It's not constantly scanning if I don't open it up.

I have bbm active frame because I like to reply my bbms in there and keep my hub less clustered.

But I will try your suggestions and report back

Interesting since they tell everyone to shut it off according to their battery saving guide. Have you tried them off?

Left it at 30%. After 8 hours EMPTY.

    Bedside Mode ON
    Wifi Off
    Location Services Off
    Bluetooth Off
    No active frame

We have poor signal reception by the way.

Mine idle with notifications LED on all night and texts/emails coming through, about 6-7% and that was for about 8-9 hours off the charger.

Very little for me. I think one night I was curious and noted how much the battery went down - it went from 85% to 80%.

But I don't have any 3rd party apps installed.

The alarm was set, I think Clock, Settings, and Browser were running while I slept.

Also, I put the phone into bedside mode.

Another contributing factor is...how long have you had your Z10? If its less than 2 weeks, there's no cause for posting about it.
When I first got my Z10, the battery drain worried me a bit, but I wasn't "I gotta author yet another battery drain thread" worried. To be honest, there weren't a lot of battery drain threads back then...they just weren't all the rage back in early Feb.
Over the next little bit, my battery life started looking more to my liking. Now I get more than a full day on a charge. I rarely have to use the battery charger bundle any more, although it's there if I overuse and need a boost. If I forget to put my phone on a charge at night, there's less than a 10% drop in the morning.
So if you have less than 2 weeks with the phone, you may be just experiencing pre-optimum battery drain.
    Patience...

Okay, so I decided to do another test. Yesterday I posted a screen capture of my battery drain at 6% overnight. I had bedside mode on, I was connected to wifi and had only battery guru and wallpaper changer HD open. (note wallpaper changer is set not to cycle just keep one wallpaper. I like it for the super bar) tonight I tried setting up my phone like the op. I started at 12:15 with 90% power, and this morning I was at 82% at 7:00am. My settings were as follows. Wifi off, I was connected to Bell LTE with 3 bars of signal. Battery Guru open, BBM active frame, bluetooth on, NFC on, no bedside mode and the phone on vibrate. That's approximately 1.1% per hour vs approximately 1% per hour yesterday. Not bad considering everything was on. Day 1, 6% loss in 6 hours 45 minutes. Day 2, 8% in 6 hours 45 minutes.

You would be better off leaving Wi-Fi on. It has a smaller transmitter than the wireless radio. It you really want to track down your power use, do a battery pull to be sure all apps are unloaded, set Airplane Mode to turn off all transmitters, don't touch the phone for a few hours and see what the use is. If it is still high, you may have an app that is checking for updates too often or, the OS load may be hosed and you should wipe the phone or, you have flawed hardware.

If your power use is small during the above test, turn on radios one at a time and measure power use after each is turned on. See if you can track down the high power draw. If you track it to wireless (most likely), try adjusting the network technologies if you can. Start by turning off LTE and measure again.

The point is, you need to isolate your potential battery gremlins one at a time until you find the actual problem. It is clear the Z10 is fully capable of efficient battery use and if yours is drawing excessive power, you need to find out from where.

Another member of these forums pointed out high power use on early PlayBooks may have been traced to preinstalled apps that had never been run. They were waiting for someone to answer the license agreement or something. This is hard to imagine but I went ahead and ran every app on my Z10 at least once just to be sure. That can be done in minutes and if it makes a difference, why not do it?

You also want to set all apps that check-in, like World, Protect, Facebook, Twitter, etc... to only use Wi-Fi if possible and appropriate for your situation.

Just tried it out again tonight. After 5 hours and 40 mins, my phone drained 8%. Same settings but profile was In phone calls only and I received no messages overnight. I will try the airplane mode tomorrow
