How long you think blackberry devices will be getting software updates. I mean will the updates continue to come for another two years or there will ne new devices in early 2014 and devices like Q10 and Z10 will be left in the dark.

I think we will continue to see updates for bb10 on through the ages. Its the legacy devices I would be concerned about.

There will be new bb10 devices but the OS will be the same....at least....thats the rumor.

That being said, just because bb updates the OS, doesnt mean your carrier will. You might have to sneak a leak

Well, no... Since you can get a leaked OS pretty easy. I dont think you will have any problem.

No you could ask "how long do people think..." i.e. asking for opinions here.

That's a really good questions. I've seen to many phones get left in the dark for updates (mostly android tho,the really old ones) but blackberry has been really good over the years at not ditching devices (to my knowledge) so I'm sure bb10 will always have the support and updates being pushed out! Or we can only keep our fingers crossed

Its a good topic. Of course none of us can really give a definitive answer. For all we know, BB will be sold before 2014 and there will be no new devices.

I really wanna purchase the Z10 or Q10 but not able to decide because of the direction the company is going and I thinl blackberry 10 is way better than any other os out there. I just don't wanna be left in the dark after purchasing blackberry as they are expensive

Surf around, most BlackBerry users have tried several other platforms. Personally, I've tried apple and android. I always come back!

You won't be sorry. Do your research. Plenty of opinions and information in the forums.

You could be waiting awhile on an OS update from your Carrier. Try the latest OS Leak.

Ok decided to buy the blackberry z10. Infact m in love with q10 but the screen is too small form me and it strained by eyes while surfing the Web or reading tweets.

I hope blackberry has planned something after 10.2 update

With 2 gigs of ram, and QNX under the hood, I'm sure we'll be getting updates for years to come.

Sitting in the same boat. I'm on the line of purchasing a Z10, just not sure with the current position of the company. I know I prefer BB10 to android (current Playbook owner) though I don't want to buy a $500 phone (unlocked) and see the updates drop off at the end of the year if the company is acquired or goes in a different direction.

Surely the bigger issue is, if they keep old devices alive with updates why will anyone buy new handsets?

There is no reason to presume that these os10 devices will run os11 or maybe more likely os12 in the future.
One thing the Playbook has taught me is that you should buy the device that works when you buy it and not for what maybe. If 10.2 does what you need then buy if not look elsewhere.

Iphone 4 is still very popular and it supports ios 7. If blackberry updates older devices it will only create a market for them in the lower end and also create an impression among buyers that their device will be supported down the road.

10.2 improves the situation but in no way is it in an ideal state

I'm bear-ish on BlackBerry now, so take it with a grain of salt.

I think we'll see 10.2 and a few maintenance/security releases, but I have little reason to believe that there will be much support other than these releases.
