Hi. I was wondering how long I should charge my new Z10 for before using it so as to be able to get the maximum battery life out of it. Just got it today in the UK on Vodafone. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Lucky you... Anyway, empty the battery and then charge it overnight.

    I am jealous!

With new phones, I hook it to the charged, but play with it still because I am impatient.

As with any device that uses L-ion batteries, always give it a full charge first, as recommended by every L-ion battery manufacturer we've dealt with at work.

You are one lucky guy! I kill the battery completely then full charge.

Then drain it all the way down. Full recharge and repeat 4 times. This will establish "battery memory". In essence it needs to know what its full capacity is. Then repeat every 3 months. Will give you a consistent long lasting battery.

This is a Li-Ion battery, not an old NiMH or NiCd

You're right. I confused the periodic table when I mentioned battery memory. Open link for better advice:

A lot of people have been asking this question. Can a mod please answer it cos there are a lot of folks who just got their z10. Got mine on Friday and the battery life has been awful. I'm beginning to think that the problem might have been from my initial charge. Can someone help with this as I am returning my z10 to get another unit. Thanks

You should replace it. First step in troubleshooting a problem. Try another unit.

    I keep reading different things.
Some say to keep it topped up as much as possible, while letting it almost discharge once a month to recalibrate it.

Did you read the link I posted? Also ask the sales people at the store you are getting it from.
