I currently have 150 MB for my 9900 but am thinking about getting the Z10 due to the new $200 unlocked price.

I message/email a lot, browse here and there, and barely use 50 MB on my 9900, but I understand that the Z10 does not have BIS compression.

I would not stream audio/video on the go.

is it even worth upgrading? I love the physical keyboard but as my 9900 is 2.5 years old, it just isn't how it used to be.

It's worth upgrading but you also need to upgrade that data plan.

You gave remember, the BlackBerry 9900 series phones use BlackBerry compression. This is where all data is compressed and sent to BlackBerry - it's a bit slower but you use less data.

The Z10 is completely open. Meaning no data compression... I use my Z10 quite a bit - the speed of 4G will blow you away coming from compressed data network!
I have 3 email accounts using push notification, and I search online and have apps that I use daily.
I'm on Wi-Fi evenings, but most days I'm out, typical data usage is around 800MB a month.

1-3 Gb with a minimum of 1Gb but max 5 Gb for a moderate video/youtube use...

If you discipline yourself not watching vids or downloading/updating on the air when outta WiFi range, go for 1Gb, if affordable 3Gb...
I used 1.5-2.4. monthly sofar, so 3Gb work for me.

Good luck... as s.o. posted it can reach 15Gb when installing/updating/videowatching on the air!

It depends on what you actually do. I do all the hard work when I'm with wifi around. You can save YouTube clips (via an app) and videos. You can even use a pocket app for stories to read on the go.

I currently use, most months, less than 1/2 gb data and it's probably only that high as I don't always turn off data when I should.

As a point of reference, I would always hit 90% (automated AT&T courtesy text) of my 300MB data limit on the 9900. These days I am right around 75% of a 3GB plan on the Q10 and am set to go over 3GB on the Z30 this month. This is with me on WiFi 24/7 at home.

I averaged less than 200 MB/month on a 9850. On the Z10, I just got my 400 MB (of 500 MB) warning and I have 20 days until the next billing cycle!

Anybody know if I'll be dropped down to 3G HSPA+, 3G or 2G(!) after the 500 MB 4GLTE runs out on T-Mobile? 3G speeds would be okay, but 2G... erg...

If you have no plans of downloading any apps, emails, viewing any sites, syncing data, etc. you should be fine.

I have a 500 MB plan and tend to go through about half of that in most months. On my 9810 I used an average of 150 MB. It is all in how you use it, use wifi when available etc.

Agree with 150 you can so emails social networks and judicious Web browsing. Mapping videos and music will cause problems but some photo would be ok..

    Apps downloads while on wifi

My wife has a 500mb plan on her 9900 and rarely goes over 100. I have the same plan and have trouble staying under 500 with my Z10. Running maps while in the car is the killer for me.

Great info and certainly points out how successful BIS was in keeping our data consumption down. I purchased my z10 privately in order to preserve my UNlimited data plan with verizon.

I don't know where you are, but if you're in Canada, get Wind's unlimited data, probably cost just as much as your 150mb, and it allows you to always have Internet with out any worries

No way that I could work with only 150meg plan.

I sometimes have to open emails containing large pdf files or multiple jpegs and I am constantly sending quotes in pdf

I guess for those that just communicate with basic text and no attachments it'll somehow work.
