I would like to personalise the sounds for emails texts etc

Two finger swipe down from the top to access settings... tap notifications... choose the profile you want to modify, probably normal. Tap it and then tap custom app notifications. Adjust to your preference. If you want to further tweak individual contacts then from the first notification screen tap contact notifications... tap the plus sign to add your contact and customize.
