Would they be pointing at North or Magnetic North? You can change it on the Z10 by enabling/disabling the location in the app so maybe it can also be changed on the iPhone. That would account for the difference.

Same problem. Even without interference, it won't point North most of the time. Also it will slowly turn, once even 360 degrees.

Here's mine, top of my Z10 pointed at the North Star.

Instead of comparing it to an iPhone, why bit get a real compass and check it's accuracy. That's the only real way to check it.

Let's assume the compass and iPhones are correct and go from there.

The compass need calibration even if there is no interfferance. Just turn around on yourself and it will self calibrate

Let's not assume and find out. What if the software in the iPhone is causing a false reading. They could both be incorrect. There's no definitive way to tell without a real compass. Maybe I'm gonna assume the Z10 is correct and the iPhone's are wrong. You need something you know IS correct without a doubt to test your phone.

Edit: I'm not saying that your Z10 or iPhone's aren't defective or not. They could be. I'm just saying you need a control that can be trusted. Make a compass or buy one. Even a cheap one will help you out.

I remember reading that there was an actual issue with the iPhone sensors on iOS 7. Did they correct it?

Sorry, but there's a deeper issue. Read what I wrote, plus look at my screenshot.

I don't know. I tested and tested mine many time... and sometime it's off by a lot but as soon as you calibrate it, it works perfectly.

    I am running Z10STL100-3/10.2.1.1925

I know where true North is without a compass, but thank you for your input. Mine and at least the OP's Z10 magnetometer has a problem. Now that we've re-established that, again - is there anyone who has ideas on correcting that problem without replacing the device?

Mine will move, sometimes flip and point the opposite direction, but rarely points North. Occasionally it locks, but not on 0.

Thanks for reminding me that I do have a case with a "sleep magnet."

Also, I recall an article a few years back that noted that using two gps' close to each other can cause both to have bad readings as they interfered with each other when they ran their "side by side" tests.

I tried Z10, PlayBook and Galaxy tab 3 next to each other and they all had different readings. When I set them at a further distance, I was able to calibrate the Z10 pretty quickly, the PlayBook took forever to calibrate... and I have to idea what to do with the galaxy tab to calibrate it.

    It's a self calibration compass.

The interference sign only appears when there is a strong magnetic field nearby. Even when it's gone... the compass still need to be calibrated.

To calibrate the compass... just turn it around and it will eventually lock on properly

Is the Z10 flat on the table? It looks flat on the table... these compasses are not designed to work that way. you have to slightly lift it.

No table, my magnetometer is so touchy was walking the dog to avoid apartment interference. I flattened its position when taking the screenshot (left hand).
