    I went into settings to change my signature and tapped on edit setting. The screen went dark and is still dark. What's happening? Should I just do a battery pull or wait?

    No need to do a battery pull. Just press the power button at the top of the phone, hold it down for a couple of seconds till the "power off" screen comes on, then tap where it says "Restart". If that doesn't restart you phone, probably your battery has died. Just plug it in for a while. While it's charging you can go back into your email settings and check them.
