    The letters represent if you have a voice connection to your carrier, the BB symbol represents if you have a data connection, if you are seeing these constantly fluctuate then I would suggest calling your carrier to see if there is something wrong server side with them first, and if not it could be a faulty radio on your BB. If it's the latter, go and get it exchanged.

    Actually, Lowercase means voice and texts, upper means Internet, and the bullets are BlackBerry services.

    do you have a data plan? is your plan currently BIS and not a normal data plan? again make sure you contact your carrier, could be a issue on their end, if its not than you might have a faulty radio which means device replacement
