So I know a lot of people have asked in many different posts but it kind of gets lost in the noise if they should upgrade to the O/S or should they wait for the official push to the carrier.

For me I have always been quick to jump on the bandwagon in these scenarios for older blackberries. But this is the first time I have done it with the Z10. So here is my experience and what I recommend.

So first off right now if I knew of what was ahead of me I would have waited. And probably would for future releases. This is purely based on how I am configured and what I will call the pain in the @ss factor.

    1) Had to do a backup of my phone. Not a big deal but I can't get backups to work if I include apps. So I will never have everything.

    2) The process is easy to do to get updated but you are getting a fresh install. So I had to go through all the tutorials again to get the basics set up. Pain again but nothing major.

    3) Restore did not give me everything. While the major stiff was in there some options did not go over. My Email required revalidation and I didn't have all passwords on memory. So had to set all that up again.

    4) Being on BES that info would not restore and had to be set up from scratch. So it was a call to IT in the morning to try and get set up again during an already busy day. This alone is a turn off. So the re sync process and connecting although simple. In my company it becomes a reliance on others and being out of touch till it's fixed.

    5) Since My Apps did not backup it became a new install from app world. so some of my paid items did not copy over and requires me to pay again to unlock. Some developers have said they have no way of unlocking unless I pay again or I wait till they add this feature in about a month. Also my games I can kiss my progress goodbye.

    6) Relinking of all my contacts. This is another big pain. Not all contacts link automatically and I think over the course of different issues this will be the 10th time I have had to do this. Yep another big issue for me to do this again.

So in Summary if any of this sounds like you and you weigh out the features of what you get out of 10.1 and the pain of setting your phone up I am recommending wait for the 3 weeks to get a carrier push and save yourself all the headache. I know looking back I would have waited. I was more curious than trying to fix an issue on my end so I know my reasons may be different than others.

So I hope this help others make a decision. Feel free to share your for or against the upgrade based on the process of installing leaked or using the carrier update that does not blow away the phone.

    Good luck in your decision.

Not everyone will get the carrier push. We have not even got the phones yet. Let alone the OS. Post this feedback on the thread please.

I'm on the stl-100-3 on Telus in Canada and this release works great on my BlackBerry. It actually fixed a few glitches I was having.

I was in the middle of setting up for the install when I ran into this thread. I've been putting it off as my eyes said yes when it leaked but my brain said no. Now that's changed when I saw there was remote file access in a couple threads yesterday and suddenly my brain jumped on the bandwagon.

Didn't start easy. I updated link but then Z10 would sync but wouldn't backup. After a couple hours I fixed the problem by turning off all Internet connections on my laptop, putting the Z10 into airplane mode and deleting a bunch of apps (I have waaaaaay too many anyways )

Onto the next stage, I have stl -3 downloaded

    I'll be back

I'm just too lazy to back stuff up and reload everything so I'm waiting for the official update.
