I have been using tetherberry for however many years and I'm not okay with having to pay for the service. Are there any apps or work around that will let me do this or wifi hot spot for free?

Have you tried sideloading an app like "foxfi" or "pdanet"?

T-mobile goes off the user agent. So uf it detects you browsing on a desktop browser it will give you this message. Try adding an extension to Firefox or chrome that allows you to change your user agent to an android phone or unknown.

bump... anyone able to figure out a way around this?
I'm on a 5GB data/month plan and I wont use more than 2.5 it seems. So I'd like to be able to tether the rest of my owned data.

It looks like we need to modify the APN profile to allow tethering but most Z10s have the APN settings locked.

My APN settings aren't available on 10.1 either.

This is whack... After running into the same Hotspot Activation problems with the Nokia Lumia 810 (T-Mobile Breanded), I went out my way to get an unlocked non-carrier branded white Z10 ($650) and T-Mobile hit me with this sh*t! I have other phones such as Nokia N9, Nokia E6, and Meizu MX 4-Core that can tether (Wi-Fi, USB, and Bluetooth) without a hitch. The only downfall is theses are older model phones with 3/3.5G connection. Both the Lumia 810 and Z10 are 4G/LTE capable. I rarely tether or abuse the network, unlike my AT&T days.

I'm begging for an developer/hacker/user to find a way around this. There's has to be a patch or app that can get us past T-Mobile Activation.

I have been using EasyTether on my Z10 and it works great. The only thing is it has to be connected via USB. It can also be tethered with BlueTooth but I haven't gotten that to work for me.

Has anyone figured out the wifi hotspot restriction?
