Just got the z10 from vzw and I noticed that it gives me a pop up telling me to use the original charger to charge it. But it's the original. I also heard of others with this same issue. Is there a fix for this?

Battery life is pretty pathetic compared to some of my older bbs.

Are you using it on USB or plugged into the wall?

I noticed when I use another charger, I get this funny sign (lightning bolt) and the device dies quicker.

Not sure about the charger as I use the one that came with it, my old 9700 charger, and my pb charger with no issues. As for the battery life, if you just got the phone, it will really suck for a few days. After a number of charging cycles, it seems, for some reason, to get way better. Still not better or as good as my old BlackBerry but my old BlackBerry didn't have the power of this phone either.

The charger that came with the Verizon Z10 is a mini charger more suitable for travel. The charger is 850mA I believe while the regular charger is 1.8A.

The regular charger is not the use type and is physically twice as large as the mini use one.

I have a PlayBook and routinely use the charger that came with it. I see also that BlackBerry sells the PlayBook charger as a rapid charger for the Z10 and it does just that.

I get this, too - in fact, yesterday, while charging with the PlayBook charger, I got the same message plus the red exclamation point battery. Discharge rate seems normal today, though.

I saw this too. The PB is 1.2a while my 9930 had 750ma. The Z has a 850ma. I was told a long time ago use what came with it, regardless of brand. Now I have like 8 BlackBerry chargers around my house with sharpie notes written on them. Use what BlackBerry recommends.

    Umm...No.
It comes with a 750ma charger. The Playbook comes with the 1.8A one.

In fact, the charger that comes with the z10 is the same as the ones shipped with newer 7.1 devices. Same as my 9320 and my dad's 9360.

Ordering a couple of chargers for my z10. I have a few here that I'll check to see if they're 750.

I'll probably get the PlayBook charger for my z10 as I can't find the one I had here for the PlayBook.

I use a different charger that is actually lower power (550 mAh). Since I generally charge overnight, if it takes a little longer, it doesn't bother me that it takes longer. Works for me and I have had no issues with it.

Ideally, you want to charge the battery at a moderate rate.
Not too fast, and not too slow.
Too fast and the battery heats up too much due to the high currents.
Too slow and the phone can't tell when the battery is full to shut off charging and hence might also overcharge the battery.

Too slow, might be if you are charging the battery through the USB port of your computer, or using a charger that is 600mAh or less.
Using a 2A charger is okay, but if you are always using it and you find that your battery/phone heats up noticeably, it is probably killing your battery slowly...
Best to use the charger that comes with your phone. Anything between 750-1000mAh is good.

That is weird. Here's the description of the "Premium Charger" aka PB charger on the BlackBerry Store:

    Premium Charger

    In Stock
The BlackBerry Premium Charger is built for maximum portability and convenience. Use it at home, the office, the airport, or virtually anywhere in North America. It's designed to work with your BlackBerry smartphone, charging twice as fast as standard BlackBerry chargers. The six-foot power cable maximizes flexibility, the adapter is Micro-USB compatible, and the folding design is also compatible with your BlackBerry PlayBook tablet for reliable charging on the go.

    - Standard in-box BlackBerry smartphone chargers included at the time of purchase

    - Increased charging rates are only applicable when charging BlackBerry smartphones

So far in 1 month I've had no issues with the PB charger and my Z10.
