Still can't believe the Z10 does not have the hardware for FM Radio. It would have made it the best device amongst the BB10 devices.

Still hoping Blackberry team can work something out on it.

Not sure what they could work out... they didn't put the hardware in the STL2,3,4.

I agree that is would have be useful too me! You get what you pay for.... or maybe not.

"It would have made it the best device amongst the BB10 devices.". Don't see how it could beat the more current Z30 which has it (you did say BB10 devices).

That's for Miracast iirc. Hardware for it was in the -1, but not the other ones.
It wasn't implemented for none of them then

Hmmm.....interesting. So if the hardware gets activated with future os updates i guess it could still happen for those of us on STL 100-1. Nice.

I feel like they wouldn't do that, because it would really get the majority of the -2/-3/-4 ones mad if we -1's only get it :P
Madder than when we got told that no Z10 gets it

IMHO, BlackBerry shot their selves on the foot with the Z10. They were rushing it so badly that they even screwed its hardware. The same model has 4 variants:
    System on a Chip:
    • Texas Instruments OMAP 4470 (STL-100-1)
    • Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus (MSM8960) (STL100-2 & STL100-3 & STL100-4)

This is huge difference which only leads to trouble. For internal and external developers and product managers and off course consumers. Does my Z10 support Miracast? Does my Z10 supports FM Radio? Will this 3D game run smooth on my Z10?
Maybe, in one part of the huge chain , they saved a few bucks with this strategy but probably they lost much more overall.

Worst of all, BlackBerry could not afford to risk their comeback like this. I'm glad they are still fighting but 2013 was a really rough year. I think it will only get better from now on since they got their **** together.

STL 100-1 doesn't have 4G but still we don't complain, so FM would be a good addition for us...!!!

FM radio is enabled for Q10 and Z30 but it is disabled for Z10, on 10.2.1 leaks, maybe I can find a way to enable it for Z10 STL100-1 modifying the music app bar file.

There is an FM support in the STL-2/3/4.
The chipset is the MSM8960 from Snapdragon and according to this page https://developer.qualcomm.com/mobil...4-msm8960-mdps

    Connectivity
    802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi«, Bluetooth«, GPS, FM
EDIT : Hang on, this I think is the page for the Dev phone that they make. Will check into it to make sure it's the chip and not just in the reference design.

EDIT 2 : Best I found http://www.qualcomm.com/sites/defaul...specs_9-12.pdf mentions FM Tx/Rx. Though the * makes me wonder if it's optional.

Either way, take with a grain of salt, specs are what the chips CAN do not what the system builder configured it to do. I hope we get FM on Z10, would make it better. But I won't get rid of it if it doesn't.

Can't believe that they brought the Z10 to market as the flagship device with it missing so many little things that the Q10 would have shortly later, and they were announced in the same event. First it was Miracast and now it is FM. As first week adopter of both the PlayBook and the Z10, it is very frustrating. I probably wouldn't use the FM radio much, but the Z10 was premium priced and apparently they cut a lot of corners on it.

Is it possible to extract the FM radio BAR file from the Q10 or Z30 OS 10.2.1 and load it on to a Z10 and see if it works?

    It won't.
    The hardware isn't there.
