Just called a friend who has an iPhone 5 but, alas, no HD.

I too would be interested in a number where this feature can be tested. That or some of my friends/family need to get their act together and get a BB10!

Same here. Experienced my first HD call from my sister, also on a Z10 (same network). It was amazingly clear, kind of difficult to describe really. It was intangible but pleasant as if the person was sitting next to you. I wish all calls were like this.

I do get this when i am on HSPA+ often, now i am also not sure what percentage of those happen when i am also on wifi. I have turned off LTE, as it allows me to get about 30 hours of batt life, with LTE always off i know it's gotta be the hspa

Love this phone, no random reboots, great batt life, and the speed of the browser has my android friends turning heads... then i tell them its hspa

So we don't actually have to activate it or something right? We can just call as per normal and if the other party is able to receive hd calls, it will be hd immediately?

So Verizon doesn't support this yet, but is by the end of the year? What carriers support it now...anyone know?
Currently unless you're in canada I dont believe any us carriers support it yet. Verizon is soon and att has plans to at somepoint in the future. Tmobile and sprint I believe have shown interest but have not announced a time frame yet.

The HD-voice is enabled in 3G and higher. EDGE does not support HD. My provider (MTS Russia) says that it is based on Wide-Band AMR codec. It has 50-7000 Hz bandwidth comparing to 300-3400 Hz standard.
I was pleased with GSM quality... now I want to stay in 3G only

Isn't Facetime already HD? I didn't really notice anything amazing with call quality using facetime vs. regular cell phone calls.

In Russia the bandwidth and coverage is not that good to allow facetiming, usually it is voice call. So, I'd prefer it HD.

The only way I can describe it is it sounds almost like someone is right next to you talking in your ear as opposed to coming through a speaker on a phone. If you happen to get an HD call, you'll know it right away.

But will it work if your in 2 different countries? IDD calls

Doesn't even have to be on the same carrier. I (Z10 on Telus) was talking to my sister-in-law (iPhone 5 on Rogers) a while back and that call was HD.

Same experience here, recently started seeing "HD" popping up once my call started ringing and I am mightily impressed by the quality with all sorts of phones (wife just switched to iPhone 5 while my sysadmin uses a Google Nexus 4, both are TMO customers.)

I call 4 other people regularly that have z10, but have yet to reproduce an HD call. We live in an area that has complete 4G LTE coverage.

I'm not sure if they drop LTE for the call, but it says 4G LTE while in the call.

Would be interested if anyone else on Verizon with Z10's have experienced HD calls and if they are consistent when calling other LTE phones or random.

T-Mobile is up and running, and in my local area I make and receive HD calls daily (as long as a compatible device is on the other end.)
