Perhaps we can get one of the editors (e.g. Bla1ze) to write up an editorial on how BB10 devices do not need and should not be subjected to physical battery pulls like BBOS devices were? If course, it'd be nice if BlackBerry actually educated the masses on this directly but... I doubt that they'd take the time to at this point.

I can't remember where, but I read somewhere lately that doing battery pulls on a norm basis (other than when absolutely necessary) on BlackBerry 10 isn't good for the device. It messes it up or something.

That seems to have been a problem before the battery pull, stuck at loading screen and pulling a battery and bricking your phone is not the same thing as phone works fine pulling a battery and oh noes phone is bricked.

    Seriously?

I'm not going to argue with you because I respect your software leaks.

    Thanks.

No it wasn't a problem, the "stuck at loading screen" was the software doing its cleanup. There is a method to the madness. If battery pulls work for you and you don't care that's fine. BUT don't start portraying its safe to remove and POWER SOURCE while a ELECTRONIC DEVICE is running.

That's why there is warnings that say "Don't power down during this update". A battery pull is no different than forcing a PC to power down. THERE can be consequences to actions. Whether or not they've happened to you.

I can't confirm or justify what you read, but that sounds logical. Even if the wear and tear of repeatedly removing the battery isn't taken into account, there's always the risk of interrupting an important read/write process.

I'm quite confused. To clarify, on the STL100-1, you can press and hold the top button to turn off the device or press Restart on the screen. Pressing and holding the volume buttons on the STL100-1 will do what?

    STL100-1/10.1.0.4181
1 will do nothing with the volume buttons. From what has been noted it is the only model that does not hard reset with volume.

They got the ****ty end of the stick on the cpu... don't understand why they had to use a different one for that model.

No LTE in the area, carriers didn't want a LTE BlackBerry, of course now they're all switching to it now

What is a battery pull? I've only done 2 with my Z10 since buying March 22, 2013.

Just as it sounds/reads: open the back cover to remove the battery to interrupt power to the device and thus turn it off, to then replace the battery and restart the device.

On legacy BlackBerry devices, this was a common phenomenon that improved performance by freeing up memory for the CPU, but is unnecessary/potentially harmful with BB10 devices.

To play it safe I power-down completely before switching out the battery from my extra battery charger thingy (which I love for the flexibility it provides when I don't have a charging source available) .

As to battery pulls and the frequency with which you perform them: I doubt BlackBerry would manufacture and sell an accessory such as the extra battery charger if they didn't know that its use would pose no threat to the device it is designed for.

T-Mobile Had me pull it when I had emergency calling only. Don't know of another reason except a total freeze, which I've never had.
