Agreed but can you name a phone camera which is good at this everytime. Z10 takes good pictures in low light if you brace it and keep it still. There are plenty of blurry iPhone and Android photos too. There is no algorithm developed yet which understand exactly the type of pictures being take and adjusts all the setting accordingly. Over the year I have had plenty of point and shoot cameras demonstrate significant differences in their abilities in low light and frame rate capture.

Pretty much all high end Lumia cameras as well as the 5s is fantastic in all lighting conditions (with Lumia models winning). I don't find the Z10 good at all in low light. It's terrible.

Well...being a semi-photographer, the take here is that these are phones and not cameras. The Z10 does shoot a good picture. Most of these phones nowadays if you hold them still. What you end up with, while it may look really cool on your phone, it won't translate anywhere else. That's certainly debatable. If your "photography" world revolves around cell phones and social websites, is there really a "camera" debate? Better colors? Better focus? Don't worry...buy a camera. or get a photo processor with a lot of bells and whistles. Is there really a debate about which throwaway camera is the best?

Yes there is a debate. Not everyone like you and I are willing to lug around an SLR camera. Most want the convenience high quality pictures built into their phones. And it's been done. Nokia has done it and so has Apple along with select Android models.

One of the common limitations with Phone Cameras often falls on generating lots of noise in low light conditions. Even higher end snappers like SONY Zs will have such problem.
Camera focus is often better on P&S digital cameras, as the cam modules as well as the mechanism is much better.

Z10 is quite good in the sense that it can capture vibrant colors under low light.

True enough...I sure enjoy having a decent way to shoot pics quick and a nice array of processing options. Taking a quick pic of the grandkids and zapping it somewhere is cause for gratitude aplenty. My point is that all of these phone cameras are just that. That said, my biggest piece of advice, regardless of what phone you have, is to hold it still.

I took this picture and two others that came out similarly with my Z10 recently while out with friends at a very dim bar with a dance floor. This was taken in Night Mode. I was very surprised it came out as well as it did given my prior attempts with a GS3 and an iPhone 4 came out terrible and unusable. I must confess that I was not familiar with the settings with those two devices. I was confident however that my Z10 could get better results than I was getting with the other two. I have also taken many non-blurry action shots with the Z10 using Time Shift and then able to capture the "perfect moment" I was shooting for. The Z10 camera is far from terrible, imo. It pretty much comes down to how much effort the picture taker wants to put into taking a quality photo.

My problems with the Z10 camera is that in low light or indoor light, I have to edit nearly every single picture for it to look presentable. I don't like editing pictures from my phone. That's why I use the phone camera...for convenience. It almost defeats the purpose.

In my opinion, anyone who claims that the Z10 camera is terrible either has unrealistic expectations of a camera phone, has not actually used it and is comparing it to the old cameras in BBOS devices (the 9930 camera was pretty bad compared to modern devices), or has not stood side by side with an iPhone or Android user and attempted to take the same pictures. Whenever I've been side by side w/an iPhone user, we were both impressed by the photo quality of the Z10. I won't say that 100% of the shots were better, but most were.

    Here's a direct comparison between the Z10, the 5, and the S3:

BlackBerry Z10 camera versus iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S3

    My judgement:

Picture 1: Z10 wins - Most natural colors.

Picture 2 (magnified): S3 wins - Most detail, but may be because of over-exposure.

    Picture 3 (flowers): 5 wins - Z10 over saturated. S3 over-exposed again.

    Picture 4 (water): Tie Z10 & 5 - S3 over-exposed.

    Picture 5 (water magnified): Tie Z10 & 5 - S3 over-exposure cost resolution this time.

Picture 6 (buildings): S3 wins - Best shadow detail and most natural sky. Z10 has poor shadow detail.

Picture 7 (globes): 5 wins - Good depth of field. Z10 dark. S3 poor depth of field.

Picture 8 (concrete): 5 wins - Good detail and natural color. Z10 green. S3 soft.

Picture 9 (SF WEEKLY): Tie Z10 & 5 - 5 has more natural collors, but Z10 has more detail in sign. S3 washes out the background.

Picture 10 (Reading man): S3 wins - Best coat detail.

Picture 11 (Reading man magnified): Z10 wins. Higher contrast and more saturation provides more skin detail.

Picture 12 (hot): Z10 wins. Least halo effect. 5 has more detail though, but ultimately the fuzzyness of the lighted sign ruins the shot. S3 is awful.

    Z10 wins: 1 - 4 - 5 - 9 - 11 - 12

    5 wins: 3 - 4 - 5 - 7 - 8 - 9

    S3 wins: 2 - 6 - 10

Conclusion: I could live with either the Z10 or the 5 - the S3 is simply terrible. Overall, I favor the less saturated colors of the 5, but the slightly higher contrast of the Z10 works better in diffused light. Surprise! The Z10 produced the best low-light photo with less washout of the illuminated sign, but the 5 had better detail.
My favorite part about that article is CNET (iPhone lovers that they are!) actually crowning the BlackBerry Z10 camera the winner and then the comment section is just pillaged! Lol!

You have people completely disregarding the overall winning device and arguing if the iPhone 5 is better then the GS3.....WTF?! Lol!

Definitely not in low light. Indoor environments and low light environments are where the Z10 completely collapses.

How does being indoors effect the camera? Low light environments would be where any camera collapses, like sonar in an environment like outer-space.

You take photos in a 16:9 aspect ratio and you want us to belive that you know what you are talking about?

I bit harsh, I know, but you should know by now that to get the best results you have to use the sensor's native aspect ratio which is 4:3.
