It's Gmail's issue, removed account and recreate did it for me

As a Verizon Z10 user, I initially uploaded all my contacts from the Backup Plus App. Yet, the duplicates came shortly after I setup Gmail on the Z10. To resolve the problem, I deleted my Gmail Contacts Account in Settings and kept what I stored on the phone with occasional backups using Backup Plus. So far not issues and not duplicate contacts.

So there is no quick fix for this?

The removing the contact account and re-adding does seem to work, and only takes 1 min. I've had my account re-added for 6 hours and nothing has duplicated again. We will see if that stays true.
I wish there was a way for me to get back the 700 contacts that Gmail auto deleted though. Those are just gone.

Had the same issue. I deleted my gmail contacts account and re added it last night and as of this morning the duplicates have not returned. Fingers crossed.

I have duplicate contacts from both of my Gmail accounts, on my Z10 & PlayBook. When I modified one of the contacts in family, it synced with only one contact on each device. I suspect something has been done at Google which has lost the sync with the original contacts. There was a frustrating issue syncing with Gmail calendars recently, so I'm assuming a similar period of a few days annoyance until it gets fixed.
This is not the cause. When creating the account, BB10 is smart enough to configure the contacts to use CardDAV and the calender to use CalDAV (those are the replacements for ActiveSync)
I had the exact same issue as everyone else who posted. When I deleted the Gmail Contacts account and added it back, my duplicates went away. As a point of reference, my iPhone 5 has Gmail contacts set up via CardDav (same configuration as my Z10) and there were no duplicates.

Saw this last week, but didn't see anything on the forum, spent ages sorting in the end deleted the contacts account and that sorted it. Was reading this thread, went to check my contacts to see they have all duplicated again... all ok on PlayBook!
Hope they get it sorted ASAP

I have also had this problem a few times where I have two of every contact, so I have to go through them and delete them one at a time, don't know why it does it so I hope the BlackBerry sort this bug out cos it does my head in.

This seems to work for me so far, delete the account and the re-add, then go to accounts/contacts for Gmail and set refresh interval to manual and it shouldn't double up

There is an android app that deletes duplicate contacts for you. Any chance a side load would work? For the record I am not dealing with the same duplicate problem y'all are. I have an abomination of a contacts list that literally has *NOW listed 123 times... and Verizon Billing roughly double that.
Hmm, I'm wondering if BB will just bite the bullet and run with Google Calendar and Contacts API
Can't believe how people don't use the search function on CB. There are now a bunch of active threads on this exact issue. Having said that, my contacts have not duplicated in over 14 hours.

I had the same problem with Gmail, I deleted the the Gmail and reset it, they synced well for a day then doubled up again.

I think that this has something to do with syncing using the Blackberry Link program. This all started happening recently for me when I upgraded to the latest version. Since I believe that BB Link syncs wirelessly as well, you may not realize that it's syncing.
For reference, I've been using Google for Domains and had everything working well since I got my Z10 (over a month ago) for contact syncing via CardDav. Removing the account and reloading it fixed the problem for a bit, but it seems to have come back.
The PlayBook OS2.1 with its current way of "Merging" contacts would drive anyone insane. I'm freakishly particular about my contacts but on the PlayBook I gave an exception, it was too difficult and I did not have that luxury of time

Mine came back again. I don't have my phone linked up to bb Link yet so mine can't be syncing with that. Wish there was an easy fix-I have tried all the suggestions here so far.
Happened to me too :(

This happened to me, its definitely Google screwing with us....otherwise they would all be doubling on the gmail web list as well. BB needs to add the option to merge duplicates like they have on the web. Good thing that I usually search for contact rather than scroll...the duplicate doesn't slow me down much.
Just happened to me after the whatsapp upgrade, of at least that is when I noticed

It happened on my PlayBook as well. Every contact coming via Google Carddav doubled. Screw Google, I hate this stoopid company anymore....
This happened to me... I removed all of my accounts. and my contacts were on my Z10... I selected all one by one and deleted them... This took a while.
After that. I re added my Google apps account. Let all of my contacts come down. I waited a while... like an hour. then added my facebook...went into contacts, turned off facebook...but the Facebook contacts were still showing... I rebooted the Z10... Facebook contacts now gone... still wanting to see if my Google apps contacts double up again...

Yup, this is what I did also and it worked for me... hoping the duplicates don't come back.
To make a long story short, I had the same problem & after Bell couldn't help me they actually put me through to BB tech support. After trying various other things we did just what you described and it has been about 5 hrs without the duplication re-occurring. When I first got on the phone with them they hadn't heard about the problem but after doing some investigating, discovered another colleague at BB tech support had the same issue & resolved it by doing what you mentioned above. They are suppose to call me back tomorrow to make certain it hasn't re-occurred.
