Can someone post sun spider or browser mark scores for both chip sets?

i own both devices, and i would say there isn’t any different in performance… : I own both because well I work for BB.
Can you go to Settings > Notification, and try to scroll it up/down, i clearly see difference in this menu, while the STL100-1 run fluid, but the STL100-2 kind of stuttering.

For those confused about the mention of Qualcomm on the omap device, it seems to be something they are obliged to mention on all their devices for some reason as even some of the non-qualcomm BBOS devices also had a similar screen.

As for as processor comparisons, I think it comes down to the omap having a better gpu while the processor side of things is more of a clear win for the Qualcomm chip.

Well it might be that the PowerVR is slightly snappier for some 2D stuff like menus. Or just that the OS is better optimized for the OMAP as the Dev Alpha was a TI-OMAP 4470 as well.
    It's probably the latter.

Someone had a comparison test, between stl 100-1 vs stl 100-2, I found it earlier today.

    thanks for that!

Man, the difference in starting the game is profound. I wouldn't have thought that.

Starting the game took roughly 18 seconds on the STL100-2 and 27 seconds on the STL100-1

So it means it takes 50% longer on the STL100-1
So even more than the 25-35% I anticipated with the geekbench results.

Hmmm, sad but the truth. However, as long as nobody next to you has the STL100-X we can just pretend we don't know. ;-)

    Yes, you're absolutely correct...

The stl-1 also had a lower OS (.82) compared to the stl-2 (.90) when the person did the test.

I think all models use same cpu, Qualcomm Snapdragon.

    Posted via CB10
All LTE enabled models (STL100-2,3 and 4) use the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8960

STL100-1 which is a non-LTE model uses the TI OMAP 4470.

As far as I know the STL100-1 has a bit better gpu, while it's CPU is not as fast as the others.

Yes I have read this too, the STL100-1 have slightly better GPU performance but the CPU isn't as good for performance.

    STL100-2,3 and 4 uses the Adreno 225

STL100-1 uses the PowerVG SGX 544

The STL100-1 does use the OMAP 4470 as opposed to the -2/3/4 versions using the S4. There would be no real world difference that one would see through normal usage.... Regarding any issues (lag) in the settings menu it is due to the way it's written (using adobe air)

Well launching a game nearly 10 seconds faster is quite a real world difference. But again, it won't kill you to wait 10 seconds longer, but still.

And another thing is TI OMAP has bigger size which translates into more heat and consumes more power. It sucks to live in non 4G country

Hmm.. i'm quite sure that the in settings > notifications, there is different performance between the two. That STL100-1 being more fluid in there. Maybe when i meet my friend that have the STL100-1 hardware again, i will make the comparison video.

Also if you could, in next video before the test in gaming, can you show us that both have the different hardware, maybe go to the settings > about, before doing any test. Just to make sure to the audience.

Your video would be helpful for all of us..

Daniel Coca - your tests make them look about even? From what I see, the CPU makes booting slightly faster on 2, 3, 4, but maybe the superior GPU on the 1 handles menus better?

That sounds about right to me. A similar theory was also held in the WP8 camp when the Lumia 610 first came out. The cpu in that 2nd gen device was clocked slower than 1st gen phones, but the gpu was better, so everything still ran smoothly even though apps generally took longer to load. I'm not too familiar with Apple's cpu/gpu setup in their iDevices, but I believe they also have a better gpu/cpu power ratio than most smartphones. That with their user-interface-above-everything-else style of programming is why people say they're "slick".

One final note, a high end gaming pc will put the money where the video card is, since most demanding games are bottlenecked at the gpu, rather than the cpu.

it's just only omap is optimized for non LTE countries, but snapdragon optimized for LTE, so if you use stl100-2 in non LTE country, i thing the first problem is drained battery, poor signal, etc, because stl100-2 was design for LTE countries cmiiw

The Omap 4470 has a dedicated 2d composition engine, that hopefully OS 10 is utilizing. Anybody who has seen this in action realizes the benefits of this method, as the gpu is not in use for basic OS ui function and email/etc. Only video and games use the gpu. The battery savings are dramatic and makes up for the 45nm vs 28nm from qualcomm. Omap's gpu and basic 2d graphics should be better, as the 2d chip is more efficient at it's tasks than a gpu. This also negates and power savings the smaller technology offers. However the s4 has A15 cores versus Omap's A9 cores and therefore in raw processor power qualcomm wins, while their graphics lose, and Omap's 2d chip matches the power savings from the smaller architecture. Fair comparison, the true question should be whether bb os 10 utilizes the 2d composition engine on the 4470. The answer may very well answer the original question. Android did not support this type of 2d offloading until 4.0..... The 2d composition engine and strong gpu has kept Omap's 4470 relevant with an onslaught of A15 28nm cores. The raw processing advantage remains, however processors from 2 years ago run the newest software without issue. Qualcomm definitely has the beast chips, but you better know you are gonna live in powersaver/eco mode if you wanna make it through a day. jmo. food for thought. Disclaimer I own both processors in different devices and like them equally. I wish Ti was not getting out of mobile as competition is good. Nvidia, qualcomm, and Samsung are all that are left. Qualcomm wipes the floor in phones because of their radio background. Samsung is for Samsung and Nvidia is best suited for wifi tablets, maybe by tegra 5 they will have merged radios and there topend chip
