I'm just wondering if there are any cons to doing this to my device and sd card. Speed, etc. I am aware that in could not use the sd card in any other device buts that's fine for me, just wondering what impact doing this doest
    Thanks in advance

Speed impact is probably minimal, you wouldn't even notice it. It's probably a good idea to do it.

I've had encryption on for over a month and I have not noticed a drop in productivity or battery life with my phone. I do it for peace of mind, but if you're not down with using a password, I don't think that you will be able to use encryption. Haven't tried it myself so I cannot comment on it.
