    That's awful. I would never ever accept a damaged package from a delivery person. If I wasn't home when the packaged was delivered I would return it unopened to the sender after alerting them with a phone call. Then I would contest the charge with my credit card company.

    Just return the phone. It is clearly damaged and you are owed a replacement, since you paid for a brand new phone.

    Warranty covers defective products by the manufacturer. This would be an insurance claim.

    If the phone is still fine and functional, I would suggest trying to get a substantial partial refund from the seller, and a new battery and back plate.

    And for what it's worth, I bet that battery starts leaking where it was bent in after it heats up a few times.
    OP is in the UK, thanks to the EU we have very good consumer protection laws. OP will get a replacement device for certain, and if he pushes hard enough maybe even some compensation on top (just complain a lot and either Clove or Fedex should cave eventually).

    And obligatory: that thing really is built like a tank.
