I'm pretty sure they are connected to your BlackBerry id but will bump the post for someone that is more confident with the answer.

They are. Didn't lose a single BBM contact moving from my 9810 to my Z10.

Also all my BBM contacts were updated with my new PIN number as my SIM card changed along with the hardware.

I attempted to uninstall it but it doesn't want to. I think you're stuck with it

Did you try pressing delete instead of uninstall?

Contacts are stored withing your BBID on BlackBerry's servers.

As a sidenote, you can't delete BBM on a Z10.

In BlackBerry World, uninstall removes the app from your phone while delete removes it from your My World. But your contacts, name, avatar and data are still associated with the BBID, and not the BBM app.

Deleting or uninstalling will unlink your contacts so don't forget to relink them if/when you install it again.
