Hey, did my data usage just go up or what.
I just got a text from AT&T telling me that was at 65% of my 200MB limit.
Today a text came and told me I was at 90%.
    WOAH! How did that happen?

I just switched over from a Bold 9900 to the (fantastic) Z10.
Was it the switch over that caused the jump? Usually 200 is more than enough for me; mainly emails and BBM/Whatsapp?

Does the Z10 use more data to do the things it does?
Did anyone else have this same experience?
    Any ideas?

Yes it does use more data than previous bb's as there is no bis anymore so your data is no longer compressed like it was on the older BlackBerry devices.

Best to increase your data allowance as 200mb just ain't gonna be enough anymore.

The Z10 does not compress data. In this matter, it's basically like any other smartphone out there now.

Wow! 200 mb even with BIS wouldn't be enough for me.

Yeah, definitely increase your data plan. You're gonna use a lot more data with BB10 for simple reasons (it's much better and you'll use it more) as well as complicated ones (less data compression, richer data types).

200 MB isn't going to be enough. It is in fact very, very little. And this applies to all smartphones, not just Z10 in case you start to associate the Z10 with additionally high data usage.

Use wifi where possible to bring your data usage down.

Suggest you get 2 to 3 GB for a start and see how you go.

Exactly. 200MB is simply not enough in today's world. Bump that allowance up!

    Wow, 200mb on a 9900?? I'd eat that in 2-3 days lol I was using about 1-3gb of a data a month with a 6gb data plan.

Now I'm into my third billing cycle with the Z10 and I'm doing between 3-6gb of data a month! Uncompressed data on the Z10 as they don't go through the BB NOC servers.

Z10 is like iphone and Samsung S3 and other top devices.

No BiS means it will use twice as much as any bis allowed phone just like iphone and other top devices.

I have a 5gb shared plan with my playbook which is way plenty for me.

    But guys guys guys,

Most of us know that it increased a lot if we weren't on wifi when we first set up our Z10s. My first week was huge too, but it's settled down now and not using near as much as that first week!

That sounds reasonable Saxxman. As well as I am hoping that would be more closer to the truth.
I will use more wifi and then see how much more I may need.
How I took for granted the compression on BlackBerry.

200mb should be fine for what you use it for.

Check to see if an app is syncing/ eating data

Previously on a 9900 I used 200-250MB per month. On my Z10 I'm using 600-700MB per month. I am also on wifi at home. My 1G plan should be sufficient with wifi for 12hrs a day

Yea I had the 250mb plan on AT&T for ever and used my phone all the time and never went over, got my Z10 and went to the 3GB plan for the first month just be to be safe, if by some chance of luck I don't go over 300mb I will drop back down to that plan. I have 8 days left in my billing cycle and have used 119mb. Not too bad, but I am on wifi at home, work, or at college so I know that helps. When I am on wifi I turn my cell data off, because if I can I really want to go down to that 300mb plan because it will save me $120 a year, almost enough to buy BB11 when it comes out ;-) I have noticed that if my cell data is off though I do not receive MMS (picture messages) nor can I send them or visual voice do not download. But I don't get many of those, so to save money I can live with checking from time to time by turning it on. Some will say I am crazy, but if it saves me as a college student money I will do anything.

I can't even believe that any carrier would allow a 200MB data allowance on any smartphone. I know the lowest I ever put on a customer account was 1GB.

200 mb is more then enough on BIS.
Since those plans had an additional blackberry services data which covered all the push, emails and bbms.

However you need at least 2gig on BlackBerry 10

Another thing I have wondered is if the sending usage data affects this. You can check if it is on or off in your settings. The phone asks when you set it up out of the box, and I have noticed most people just click yes and never read things. In will post some pictures of how to find it on your device.

Turn off data diagnostic, one of my phones burned data the other didn't, that's what caused it. Rodgers rep found it.both work great now
