I didn't touch my phone for the last 3 hours. I just checked if any data was used, and seems like BBM used 12mb of data... not sure what it was downloading.

Do you have Box or Dropbox setup on your phone? Are they constantly syncing to the cloud? This uses a LOT of data when not on wi-fi, not to mention battery.
Great point. Is cellular network the same as data network? Because I have them turned off on both Dropbox and Box.

It may be when you are connected to your carriers network your wifi is voluntarily turning off. It is an issue I am having and have to be extra careful now as I forget to disable my carrier data so my wifi can connect. No solution has been found but it is posted here http://forums.crackberry.com/blackbe...-error-909783/

Typical usage in 4-6gb / month.

I feel as though this is WAY more then competitor phones.

I used 38gb last bill and 10 days into the next billing cycle and have used 13. Thank God for the grandfathered unlimited data, only downside is that i have to pay out of pocket for any new phone i want.

Verizon has not throttled back your data or hinted at your possible excesses?

Nope and I'm alsi using the hotspot on a daily basis without paying for the service. wi-fi at work blows so I use my hotpot on my PB, laptop. 38 has been my max but I do about 8 gigs every month.

Don't restrict my self, my usage now is the same as when I was on BBOS. I did read the recommendations on limiting data usage and follow them.

When that happens, doesn't the wifi icon at the top just appear grey??
It's been a while since I have been in a hotspot like that so I don't 100% remember, but I think it does.
You're correct, it goes light grey - almost the same colour as when it's connected. With a cursory glance it's easy to miss as I did! Thankfully I have ample data with my cell carrier, so it wasn't a problem on that occasion!

So I think I might be in the same boat. I use my phone for just twitter and gmail and for the first 9 months I have been hitting my limits just fine (500mb). But the last three months, I have been going over excessively ( 8gb combine). Im not using the phone differently, so I started to watch my data. I have wiped my phone and data twice and still the problem persists. My carrier keeps telling me its on my end. I have attached the following, which shows data spikes from the system. These data spikes have been happening throughout midnight, while Im alseep. None of my apps are downloading data, its all coming from the system. Can someone provide some advice. My carrier is telling I should just turn off my phone at night. Putting the phone in WIFI isn't a solution cause Im barely home.

So that explains it all, I just checked and yes the system keeps downloading something, no wonder my data packages end so quickly. BBM too, if you notice, large chunks of data are consumed by it.

Your graph shows less than 1MB of combined up and down load over two days. That would be about 15MB/month. Your Wi-Fi usage shows close to 500MB during the same time period but concentrated over a very short period. If you were using that amount of data off of Wi-Fi ever two days that would come close to 8GB, but from what I see here that would be on Wi-Fi.
