In the sounds settings I set a custom tone for messages, including BBM and texts however when I receive a message it plays the default even if the custom is the selected tone. Is this some sort of bug or known issue?

Not a bug, just how it seems to work.

When you give a contact a custom Message ring tone, it's for email, not BBM or text messages.

Hey,

I didn't set it in the contacts edit screen. I set it in the main settings page on the phone. Settings -> Notifications -> text messaging & BBM were set. It does not play it however.

Weird thing is I set a custom ring tone for my wife's contact (contact edit) file and it works fine. But the settings for the main notifications does not work at all. The ability to change is obviously there go take a peek, so why isn't it actually working?

What audio format do you have your custom tones as?

Also, are you saving the tones in the ring tones folder on the sd?

I Don't have an SD card installed yet so It's saved in a folder I created called Ring tones which I placed it in the downloads folder on the phones memory. The file is in MP3.

I had the exact file used for my text messages on my 9900 and it worked without any issues. Is the Z10 more picky? Any help would be great....

AHH ok well you solved the text ring tone problem that a lot of us have been having. I could not figure out why my text ring tones were not playing for a specific contact


Ok I followed your steps text message ring tone does not play specific ring tone even for my own contact

This is an issue for me as well.
Battery pull fixes this only temporaly.

I got it working today! Weird process and it's obviously a glitch with the software. When I go in the settings to set a custom tone and press the browse music selection to find the file, I have to make sure that when you select it, that it actually plays a test tone right after. If it doesn't, you have to do it again until it does. No sound, won't work. If it plays then it will work. How stupid is that eh?

It 100% works now. Has been all day with about a hundred texts and 10ish calls.

BlackBerry needs to fix this glitch.
