Considering Z10 but really need to sync my outlook 2010 calendar
- Ok Everyone I need your help. I had a Bold 9930 loved the thing and it got washed in the washing machine! So I am considering getting the Z10 when it comes out for Verizon. The only hesitation I have is that I really need to sync my Outlook 2010 calendar with my blackberry. I am a small buisness owner and was using the funambol app to sync via the cloud. Funambol says they have no plans to support BB10. Tried to set up google apps for buisness and found out they no longer support blackberry so I wouldn't be able to get the calendar to sync. I can't even get outlook to sync via usb cable two ways. What am I to do here folks I really want to continue to be a Blackberry user but it's getting difficult.
Any suggestions how to get this to happen?
I would prefer to get my outlook calendar to sync instantly wirelessly.03-22-13 09:13 PMLike 0 - I am always surprised to see threads like this, on the contrary I have way too many calendar sync to my device. To answer in short I use hotmail/2exchange/1gapps/1gmail all of which sync very nicely to my z10.
I use my Gmail as my main calendar while my exchange serve as meeting requests etc, I have no problem syncing those either, from what info or function that is missing from this?
As per outlook, I use it on one of my exchange account on which syncs outlook to my Z10 fine.

I am the only employee of my buisness and am trying to learn how to make the mosty out of my blackberry and really like the idea of the Z10. So anyhow if I understand you correctly you have an online/hosted exchange acount from microsoft (i beleive it costs like $4 a month per user) to sync your email and calendar directly to your outlook on your PC. Therefore if you add or make changes to a calendar appointment on your Z10 they automatically change in the cloud and on your pc in outlook? How do you like your Z10 so far by the way?03-22-13 10:15 PMLike 0
- ESCON I have a PC. Like I said I am pretty inexperienced with this but can learn quickly. I read that when you use the outlook.com account it basically works like the desktop manager used to but does not sync instantly. is that accurate? again sorry for bein naive here I appreciate all your help.03-22-13 10:18 PMLike 0

Funambol is just a freebie way of doing "cloud sync". In the old Blackberry days, you needed such kluges to workaround limitations in the OS. Blackberry no longer has those limitations because it supports all the common online syncing protocols natively.
That's wrong, I don't know who told you that. Unless it only refers to some of the older-generation Blackberries.
Google supports multiple methods of syncing calendars if you are on one of their PAID services, such as Google Apps for Business. What they just killed-off were some of those options for FREE ACCOUNT users. Google is working very hard to undermine the user experience on any platforms that are not Google platforms these days. But Blackberry 10's support for various standard "cloud protocols" circumvents that to some extent.
That capability actually exists for the 9930 but it can be complex to get working properly. This is why most people these days prefer cloud syncing, and why Blackberry has put their focus on that architecture.
There are MANY online services, both "free" and "fee for service" that provide online email/contacts/calendar syncing compatible with Blackberry 10. Google Apps for Business is one of them.
Many people are doing that today with Blackberry Z10's and it works fabulously for them.
If you need more info on how that works in detail, please ask.03-23-13 12:56 AMLike 2 - I prefer to sync to Outlook myself.
Also, I need to see filters for contacts. How come BBOD 10 didn't include contact categories?
Posted via CB1003-23-13 01:38 AMLike 0 - Hey Omnitech thank you so much for the very informative post. It sounds as though either way I may have some options to make sure that my outlook calendar on my desktop continue to sync with my blackberry (my new Z10 that I will purchase next week).here is the link for what i was told about google apps for buisness the technical support guy from google sent it to me. Google Sync for BlackBerry End of Life - Google Apps Help In your opinion opinion what do you think is the best services to use to make sure that my outlook calendar on my desktop and my blackberry Z10, and possibly the outlook on my laptop saty in sync? either free or paid service. Thanks again for all the help from everyone btw.03-23-13 07:15 AMLike 0
- That is correct, I have a exchange account which is hooked up with outlook client 2013.
Meeting request, contacts, emails(push) are all there.
I have had android(note2) and ios(ip5) before with the same accounts. All were working fine, one thing to beware is that email are synced to 30 days maxed for now.
Overall here are my views for the competitor platforms.
email/calendar functions easily.
- calendar events Z10 will try connect related emails
- hub is your one stop for all email accounts
- led flash (not in iPhone)
Android
- nice variety of calendar widgets
- you can select sub Google calendars of the same Gmail account
IPhone
- the contact name can be freely dragged and dropped from to/cc/bcc slots
Windows Phone 8(same as windows phone 7)
- native outlook app, but mostly in name tho.
- file sharing via sharepoint (like skydrive)
Hope it helps your decide for your business.

So whatever I see in my outlook 2013 I see in the blackberry hub.
E.g. If I started to draft and save an email into the draft folder on outlook. I can then complete the mail on the go from my Z10 device. Once sent I will see it in the sent folder of my outlook too.
For calendars if there were a meeting reschedule, it will appear on both outlook and Z10 (happens a lot fml)
Hope the example helps.

Yes, that's for the older Blackberries. Has no bearing on a Z10. See below.
Well the obvious choice if you want a "free" service would be Outlook.com, which is run by Microsoft. I write "free" in quotes because the tradeoff for free is different levels of committment to service quality and possibly having advertising shoved at you.
There are many many companies that do commercial Microsoft Exchange hosting services. Many businesses of all sizes use them. Prices range from about $4/mo per mailbox to about $12/mo per mailbox, depending on the provider and the sophistication of the service.
Who is your current email/calendar provider? Do you already have calendars syncing between your desktop and laptop? If so, the simplest path would be to just link into that same service.
Do you have your own domain name? Do you need to migrate that to your new provider, if you're going to go with a new provider?bajito likes this.03-23-13 07:27 PMLike 1 - OP and I are looking at same solution. I am going to use companion link and sync wireless to outlook or upgrade my email active sync exchange. Then calendars will sync.03-23-13 07:52 PMLike 0
- I'm using Google Calendar to sync all my appointments to my iMac Calendar. Loving it. Fast and error-free.

Posted via CB1003-23-13 09:06 PMLike 0 - Omnitech, I currently use a comcast account as my main email account but may be willing to switch. I did set up my own domain name a couple of days ago in hopes to get this working by setting up the outlook 2010 calendar to sync with Google aps for buisness. I do need my calendar items to be available for at least a year and I read earlier in a post that outlook.com has it for only 30 days. I have not yet set up my desktop and laptop to sync calendars because i was using funambol and it just was not working well. So I just synced my outlook 2010 to my bold 9930 via funambol. I am open to use anything that is realiable and secure and will work smoothly with the purchase of a Z10. I would need to migrate it I believe because I set up an email with my new domain that is currently set up in the google apps for buisness. I am in the trial period and am willing to pay the $50 dollars a year so long as it works well. Any Suggestions you have would be gretaly appreciated for this guy who is just starting out. BTW I appreciate everyones help here this has been amazing. What a great community!03-23-13 09:56 PMLike 0

Given what you're saying there, if I were you I would consider a commercial service like ExchangeMyMail or similiar. The problem with the freebie services are that there's no financial or legal incentive for them to provide a reliable service, it's all "as-is/where-is". If you're in business, I would hope you would agree that that's not acceptable.
I've also found Microsoft to be amazingly obtuse when it comes to support for their online services. Everything seems more complicated and jargon-ridden than it should be, kind of a morass really. Perhaps all you can expect if you're using a "free" service, but not if you're paying for something and just need to get the job done with minimal hassle.
ExchangeMyMail (link) is about $13/mo but I hear good reports about them. They are also a Blackberry partner, so should be expected to not be completely ignorant about the Z10, though bear in mind that while the Z10 has been selling worldwide for 7 weeks now, it's just getting underway here in the USA. Their "Blackberry plans" are probably for the older generation devices, probably not necessary for the Z10.
I would at least give them a call and see what you think, ask them about what would be necessary to migrate your email to them.
Do you have any idea how large your Outlook mailbox is? You can find it by going into "Accounts" and looking for the file location there, it's a file ending in ".PST". ExchangeMyMail has different tiers of service, the basic one comes with 5GB storage limit. If that's not enough, or you just want to explore some alternatives, here are a few:

If they are using a "free" Google service, ActiveSync hasn't been available since the end of January for new devices. (IE if you had already setup a device with that protocol it will theoretically still work, if you just tried to connect a Z10 to it over the last month, it will NOT work)03-23-13 11:58 PMLike 0 -

Assuming the Exchange server you are connected to supports notes syncing. Older versions did not. (For example, Exchange 2003 does not. That feature was introduced in either 2007 or 2010 versions.)
Blackberry claims to support that feature starting with Exchange 2010:
