Considering buying a used Z10 off of craigslist. User has had it for about a year, used it for 3 months, but says smaller iPhone fits their hand better.

Never bought a used phone before. Any suggestions on what to check, especially since I have no Z10/BB10 experience?

It's from AT&T, I'm on AT&T, so probably not an issue.

Have the seller give you the IMEI Number so you can verify it's not blacklisted

I prefer the STL100-3 model which covers the GSM bands used on the T Mobile and AT&T networks here in the USA.

As one of the posters stated, check the IMEI number on the national cell phone IMEI database and verify it's not blocked and/or blacklisted.

The -3's are T-mobile units, correct? Which means I would need to unlock it to use on AT&T, right? Not a big deal, just want to be sure.

Yes, the AT&T models should be STL100-3 models and would have to be unlocked to work on the T Mobile network, but they will get 4G LTE which is a good thing.

You can check the model number by selecting settings/about, I hope it helps.

keep in mind an att unlocked doesnt posses the 1700mhz frequency which tmobile z10 does have thats the difference between the 2 you shouldnt have to worry if your in a good coverage area but the tmobile z10 is like a pentaband phone once unlocked

Not a lot of known physical problems with them. Maybe blown speakers, but they are $16 for 10 and it's a twenty minute fix...

Just make sure you have the right radio bands. The band and network are not necessarily related. You could buy an unlocked version that uses T-mobile bands or AT&T bands, or Verizon bands..

But if the seller was on AT&T and so after you, it would seem like no problem.

Beware of a defective sim tray! Try it immediately upon receipt and pay with paypal so you are protected! Paypal protects your purchase even if the item is bought outside of eBay, it happened to me last week. It was a Z10 and the defective sim tray holder. Buyer ignored my emails until he received the paypal claim dispute

I bought my z10 100-3 and my z30 100-5 models in Canada and unlocked them, the Canadian models support all the bands for the US carriers, solved any issues I might have.

If I was buying a used Z10, I would download BlackBerry Virtual Expert first so I know that every essential hardware is working fine.

Except for me Virtual Expert crashes (well, just doesn't respond to clicks) once I test top microphone. Haven't ran in on 10.2.1, but it used to do that on 10.2

There are two versions of the 100-3: RFK121LW and RFF91LW. The RFK121LW version is the T-Mo version and has the 1700 band. It should not make a real difference though.

That would be my druthers, but the seller isn't near the official AT&T store, just an authorized retailer that has a very poor reputation according to Yelp and other reviews.

Wasn't aware of this. Nice app! However, my impression is the seller's Z10 isn't active nor updated. I'll ask them. Wonder if they can use the SIM from their iPhone?

....or just pass on this one although $170 obo is tempting.

They are $299.00 US from the BlackBerry website and I found a mint used z10 100-3 factory unlocked for $160.00 on Craigslist. I feel with the latest 10.2.1.2 update, it's a bargain.
