As stated, you can check PMs from the mobile browser (desktop or mobile view). You can also use the Android CB Forums app or Tapatalk, until the updated CB 10 app arrives.

Odd that the much older Playbook CB app can check Private Messages. Since I prefer the larger screen, I do tend to use the PB version when away on trips.

Amazing how the Droid version of an app that is for BlackBerry users forum has more options.
