    Front/rear camera, microphone, screenshot, everything?

Why can't we see when the phone is sending/receiving data? Phone is always on. Creepy...

And they are exempt from the shutter sound too!

I believe it is very possible IF they want to "look/listen" about you.
A few years ago (maybe3) there was a school district that was issuing Apple laptops to the students. It turns out that the School administrators/some teachers were turning on the cameras remotely and watching the goings on where ever the laptops were on and open.

One student got suspended because the "Administrators" "saw him doing drugs" in his bedroom through the connection. He was suspended. Oh and guess what "drugs" he was doing?????

    Hot Tomales cinnamon candy....

I personally don't use the cameras in the laptops, but I do place a piece of black tape over it just in case "they" or
    myself inadvertanly turn it on.

But my tin foil hat DOES make my backside look big............

LMAO you guys do know they don't care if you sell drugs, do drugs, drink and drive, kill someone, threaten someone, order mail order brides, set up escorts.... They will only tap into your conversations if you are speaking about terrorism, and terrorists and plots to destroy things.

Sure they can tap into you at any given time, but unless you give them reason to tap into your camera or mic, they won't care

Well, everything is recorded and saved to a database so at some point in the future it will all be seen and could be used against you.

    You guys really believe that?

It is certainly possible for them to do so, but it requires software being installed on your phone.

If you have your phone password protected it can't happen.

Besides blackberry is security and privacy conscious and they DID NOT participate in prism. No blackberry did not ship your phone with software installed to spy on you

I am glad this forum was opened. I believe one of the reasons the US Government purchased BlackBerry phones for their employees was also because of the security aspect of phones. So my question is How secure are BBM conversations? Can they realistically tap into BBM without authorization from BlackBerry and Canadian Government? Anyone? Thank you Paranoid

Nope, they can't tap into BBM conversations at all. That is on BB's NOC server and unless BB gives them access (which they have said in the past with the whole India? Middle East tossup a few years ago they will not give governments permission to spy on BBM conversations) it will never happen.

Bbm is possibly the most secure method of communication in the world. Bbms go through bis and through blackberry s own servers.

Until quite recently, once the messages were deleted from the sender and recipient s phones there was no possible way to retrieve them, even under supreme court subpoena.

What happened later is that middle eastern governments became concerned that it was impossible to monitor bbm and threatened to eliminate the services or ban blackberry, so it appears that bb modified the software to allow governments to access bbm, but only if they are legally required to do so.

I won't find you the links for this, but look it up - it is believed that bbm was used by terrorists to communicate leading up to and during the Mumbai attacks, also bbm was used in the London riots, giving governments a cause to want to access bbm. Once Saudi and uae governments got access to bbm, other governments said they want it too. However if you look up Blackberry's official privacy policy, it appears, by my reading of it, that blackberry doesn't fork over any of your information unless they are legally ordered to do so. They don't voluntarily participate in programs such as prism. Therefore the government won't get your bbms unless they obtain something like a court wiretap order on you.

In this case the lapd didn't say how they got access to the drug traffickers bbm, but we can only assume it was court ordered. I really don't think the lapd has the resources to hack blackberry, unless one of these traffickers was dumb enough to leave his phone lying around somewhere without a password

Quicksilver, I thought that after those events, they have quietly allowed some spying on bbm, but it has to be legally mandated?

How would you explain the article I posted above? The LAPD, shall I say, is not a brilliant organizations full of ingenious hackers... lol. if they got bbms from those guys it was because blackberry let them, presumably because they were legally required to do so

BBM is secure on Blackberries but the email accounts that you set up on your device can be (and apparently are) regulated by Prism. You might want to be careful about which apps you have loaded or sideloaded onto your device. Big Brother really is watching!

I honestly don't know, last I heard (about a year ago) is they wouldn't allow for government spies, maybe that has changed.

I do know that blackberry is NOT apart of Prism, and not affected by what has come to light now with the NSA

Look up a malware app called PlaiceRaider. It could potentially be disguised as a fart app, but it can map out your entire room and upload the information to servers to be reconstructed for analysis. The following link is from a few months ago, so you know the technology is out there.

How can BlackBerry users protect themselves from this especially once headless apps are enabled?
