Hi, I bought a z10 yesterday, very cheap and I never had a bb10 device before. I intend to use the phone as a secondary device, because from what I remember from my old blackberry devices they are a reliable phones. Anyway there is an issue with BBQ and bbm services in general, I know that you don't need a BIS plan for be 10 os,but I've tried two different sim cards, two different carriers, Wi-Fi only, and I can't get BBM running it keeps telling me "no blackberry data".I tried pretty much everything that I could think of, pull the battery out, security wipe, try to register the device to the wireless network, but none of the above seems to work I still canttget that blackberry symbol on the top right corner, any advice would be much appreciated. It's an unlocked device stl-100 2,running the latest software.

Better ask your carrier if your plan is a BlackBerry plan. Or else change your apn settings to your carrier. That works for me.

Well, both of the sim cards that I have tried are not on blackberry plan, but from what I remember you don't need one on bb 10 os, and I tried without a sim only on Wi-Fi, same result,as for the apn it's automatically configured.

Doesn't have to be a BIS plan but still be either a BlackBerry version of the plan or change your APN settings. If have an iPhone plan and it did not work to use on BlackBerry, so I changed my APN settings. It used to be blackberry.net so I changed it to my carrier's APN setting. Bell: [email protected] and it worked.

Sorry for the late reply, but I fell asleep because I had to go to work early, I'm interested the UK my carrier is EE, but like I said even without a sim card in, only on Wi-Fi I still have the same issue, so it can't be the app I suppose

Could it be a software issue, because I doubt that it is related to hardware. What if I re-install the operating system,i can't be the only one that has had that issue 😊

You haven't posted the OS version or the specific model of Z10, nor have you said if you checked the APN, or what it is set to. On some carriers the APN is automatically set to one that will require a BlackBerry plan. If your OS is too old you won't be able to set it to the right one.

I did all of that but I'll do it again, the model is stl100-2,and I'm running the latest version of the software, about the apn,i stated that even on Wi-Fi without sim there is no blackberry data, what does the carrier which I stated is EE UK have to do with it.

If the APN is set to the right (wrong depending how you look at it) you won't get any BlackBerry services until you are registered on the BlackBerry network with a BlackBerry plan. This is a hold over from the BBOS to BB10 transition where some carriers decided to stay with BlackBerry plans, some ditched them and some did something in between. When the Z10 was released BlackBerry was trying to convince carriers to automatically configure the APN, but not all do. And not all set it to a value that will work. Bell Canada, for example, sets it to BlackBerry.net regardless of what is right for your plan. All this to say, you need to know what the plain (non-BlackBerry) APN for your carrier is and make sure the phone is set that way. Depending on how all these different levers are set you could have the wrong APN set.

The latest version of the OS also varies depending on what carrier you are on, the phone was on and whether or not you can get to a BlackBerry server to upgrade or not. All you need to do is type myver and hit the space bar and you will tell us a lot, like so:

Google for it, or ask your carrier.

OK I'll figure out the situation with the APN, but what about Wi-Fi without sim at all, I still have no connection to BB data.

Have you set up a Blackberry ID on your phone? I'm pretty sure a BB10 device needs a BlackBerry ID to get some stuffs working, eventhough BIS account is not needed.

It seems that I had the same issue with my Q10 and end up with sold that in trade, and happy with my Z30, but no solutions invented yet, I think these are BBM locked mobiles, in eBay in India they clearly mentioned "BBM may not work "", where I picked up my Q10
