The screen (Glass and digitizer) is a single piece and once cracked it would render it unresponsive. Unlike other devices such as Galaxy Note where the glass and digitizer are individual parts, a cracked screen on a Note (such as on my spare phone) would still work because the digitizer is intact!

Sorry to hear man, but it was blackberries choice go for a thinner screen ( don't know how much more thinner it would have made a difference vs 2 separate pieces) and also to save some money on a fused digitizer with the screen. I'm pretty sure the latter played a more important role in blackberry choice.

So any crack to the screen whatsoever will render the touch screen useless. As small as the crack is even a hairline will result in that.

having never broken a screen on a phone before but being clumsy and dropping, well, everything I've ever owned at least once I wonder if subsequent releases of the phone will go with a two piece system or if the solution is a sturdy case and more care on my end..
