It seems to me BB World has an issue pushing update notifications to your phone. I think the current batch of updates is causing BB World to hang. Here's what I did:
Launch BB World from Music app
Go to My World, then immediately check for updates
Update everything.

Now BB World opens normally.

I went to the music player app, then tapped on the three dots and had access to World. Now I noticed that ever since it works normal again by accessing it via icon.

Yup, seems to have fixed it for me too.

Same thing here on AT&T. Went in through the music app as suggested and it worked. Now the BBW app is working.

This worked for me too. Then when I went back into AppWorld, there was a BB World update installing now.....

Music work around worked for me too. But there is the Verizon Backup Assistant that refuses to update for me. Wonder if that is causing issues.

In the Music folder there are three dots on the bottom right corner - click that, then on Blackberry App World. After you get into a music screen of BBW, change the view too ALL from Music, and you can close it after it loads. From now on all inks to BBW will work

I just tried my "Fix" again. Music Player - BlackBerry World - My World, then open and close all three options - open My Apps and Games - refresh it and wait until refresh complete - close the app and open BlackBerry World from the home screen.
Works now! I just don't know for how long.

Opening up through the music player does jump start the native app as suggested above. Worked for me on T-mobile in the states thanks for the suggestion everyone above.

I successfully accessed BB World through Music and updated two apps - Parrot and USA today. After doing so accessing BBM works fine. I wonder if a bug in one of those apps was responsible. I noticed that one of the fixes in USA today was to correct random opening.

I'm in Trinidad & Tobago, mine wasn't working as well.
The Music player didn't have a link for BB World, i was able to launch from the Games app though.
BB World seems to be functioning normally now.

After accessing it through music player it seems to have fixed the problem and I can now access it through the main app again. For those that missed it, this is the work around:

Go into your music app. Tap the three dot icon in the lower right corner. Click on BlackBerry world. It will launch successfully.
