Someone could buy it, strip out the cash and sell off the patents and have some spare cash leftover. Sell off the NOC and the software and then mothball the hardware division.
According to analysts, BlackBerry has been a "takeover target" for years.
Google would never buy them, and I don't know why people still entertain that idea.

Since the beginning of security on a mobile device, it's been a takeover target. Let's just make that clear. Everyone wants a piece of BlackBerry due to their amazing software and security. If it wasn't for that BlackBerry would have been gone a long time ago, but the fact that they are still here shows, that for now BlackBerry is willing to fight back.

I don't know but for me it'll be great to see Sony making the hardware and some of its patented software on BlackBerry 10 OS. It doesn't have to be acquisition, let's just make it some mutual relationship between them. Can't imagine a Sony smartphone with Xperia Z design and specs (full HD Bravia Engine 2 screen, quadcore, 13mpx cam, ip57 waterproof) combined with BB10 OS + Walkman quality music player app. Definitely the winner!
