Although what baffles me is when people complain about something being too expensive when they're not even being forced to buy it. Obviously customers inevitably control the market, prices should level when BB learns that they have put the Z10 at a ridiculous price point, but I would think they would want to see sales figures to back that claim up before adjusting the retail price.

Nah dude. Carriers or BlackBerry have essentially priced the handsets to high for a company trying to claw back market share.

I see no reason why someone would switch to the Z10 at the current prices when there are equivalent/better alternatives out there at a lower price point.

The only reason the handset is priced that high is due to BlackBerry's popularity in that specific market but they won't be popular for too long at these prices.

Lol if I can't afford to buy a lambo or a range Rover I don't go to their forums and cry that. Why is it so expensive. They should make 1 with Honda civic prices. Or tata price.

Irrespective of who can afford what, it seems you find it hard to comprehend the situation. To simplify - the problem is you go to buy a Civic but are told that it's gonna cost you more than the Range Rover.

Just because there is demand, they will overprice it? Is this some kind of auction? If I have 45k to burn I still won't waste it on a phone.

And the civic example is weird. Is this z10 that superior? And just because people can afford to buy slk 350, it doesn't mean they have to buy it.

My answer is. If you can't afford it don't buy it. Even if you think it's a crappy phone. That's your opinion.

And again you miss the point... People are willing or want to buy the phone but it has been priced higher than the other high end alternatives.

This has nothing to do with whether they have the money or not. It's about the pricing...

It is not about affordability dude... Why should we pay more while the rest of the world gets the same for less (Irrespective of it being locked or unlocked)

I think some of you do not understand the fundamental problem.

How many iPhones and S3 I could currently buy in India?
How many Z10 I could currently buy in India?

The difference in the numbers explains the difference in market price...

Wait till 0730 pm for the final pricing. Expected around 39K. If it is 45k, then I need to think again.

First of all, it is supposed to be an aspirational phone. Meaning not everyone can afford it. Secondly, there may be a less expensive model coming out sometime this year.

Half the cores, half the battery life, half the apps, costlier. BlackBerry has to bank on those who think this is an aspirational phone.

    Consider this:

    Prices in India -
    S3 - INR 27,000
    Note 2 - INR 37,500
    iPhone 4 - INR 36,000
    Bold 9900 - INR 31,000
    Z10 - INR 45,000

I've been waiting for Z10, but this is sheer stupid pricing. Even if I can afford to buy this and the phone is as good as it is, it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to price it above the likes of Note 2.
Is that S3's current price or launch price?

I was expecting a launch around 40k, seems they wanna show they are as good as apple, sadly, they have made lot of ill-will in last year...

Though I will wait & buy when it drops to 35/37k , which i'm sure it will, as besides apple nobody holds up to their release price..

I think they are holding price till the release in US, after which price will start cracking...

my wife is Indian and I just came back from India (to Dubai). This pricing is INSANE for India. BUT every Indian retail item has an MRSP or so, the maximum allowed retail price. This is usually far from what shops charge, so once the "rush" settled a bit expect the phone to be on par with iPhone5. My best guess at least.

come to Canada, pay $400 for a tire where the same one is sold in the states for $100 and we are connected. I am sure that the price of the phone will settle out but I bet there will be a lot sold even at that price.

BlackBerry is going to take a market share hit with this one. I can not openly recommend this phone to anyone who would even have that deep of a pocket, only because I know there is an unnecessary premium involved.

If the Z10, Q10 lineup (and price point) is supposed to replace the 9900 then I don't see this phone moving.

I agree, i think Z10 is a great phone, but pricing it with anything above Note 2 is just weird. In Singapore the recommended retail price (RRP) is SGD 918, which is around 742 USD. In Malaysia its even cheaper at 2188 Ringgit, around 706 USD. 806 USD is kinda steep, why the premium?

Is it possible to order one from another country that's selling it cheaper?

It is possible but since it is a new phone and difficult to get anything done under warranty unlike cameras (Canon, Nikon) which come with a international warranty.
